Owen and Jeanie Olsen have lived in Cleveland since 1972. Owen is a native of Sanpete County and Jeanie is a native of Emery County. They have seen many changes in the community during the time they have lived here. Some of the changes they have been privileged to be a part of.
Owen helped draft the zoning ordinance for the community and has also been active in the fire department. Through his efforts, and the help of several others, they were able to organize and train a fire department and obtain a new fire station and trucks. These efforts helped the home insurance rates to drop and many structures have been saved through their efforts. Owen served as fire chief for 15 years. It was the fire department members and their wives that started the Miss Cleveland Pageant several years ago.
Owen and Jeanie were involved in the Boy Scouts of America program for some 20 years. They worked in both the Cub Scout and Scout programs. Their lives have come in contact with many special young men. Many hours of service were given to these young men in hopes that they would grow up to be honorable citizens in the various places they reside. They have contributed many hours of community service through various scouting projects. They have both had other church callings where they have been able to work with the youth and, hopefully, been a positive influence for them.
Owen is a member of the American Legion and serves as chaplain.
Jeanie has been a teacher at Cleveland Elementary for 22 years and has touched the lives of many students during that time. She is looking forward to the time she will be able to retire and spend more time with her family.
Owen is now retired and spends time working in his woodshop and on various other hobbies. He has made many beautiful projects from cedar chests to rocking horses. He has willingly shared his talents with others and helped to raise money through the various fundraisers the community has sponsored.
Owen and Jeanie are the proud parents of five sons. They all achieved their Eagle Scout rank, served missions and married in the temple. It is exciting to finally have some girls in the family with the five special daughters-in-law. They have 10 grandchildren (four girls and six boys) and look forward to every opportunity they have to visit and spend time with them.
