The Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant was held on July 16 at the Emery High auditorium. Eight contestants participated in the pageant including: Elyse Mills, Candice Jensen, Kristine Johansen, Candace Ungerman, Natalie Newland, Shawna Rogers, Shala Pitchforth and Kaymie Powell. The contestants participated in an interview with the judges in the afternoon on Saturday. Emery County Commissioner Drew Sitterud welcomed the audience to the pageant. All the contestants introduced themselves to the audience. LaRae’s dance studio students performed a dance. Commissioner Sitterud announced the master of ceremonies for the evening, Eugene Swalberg. Tawni Bigelow, Miss Emery 2004, was also master of ceremonies. She told of her experiences as Miss Emery and her time spent at the Miss Utah pageant.

The contestants participated in talent, swimwear and fitness, casual wear, onstage question and evening wear. Four former Miss Emery’s also performed at the pageant, McKette Hinkins, Laura Blackwell, Michelle Leonhardt, and Amanda Huntsman as they were known during their reigns as Miss Emery.
An original song, “The Price of My Freedom,” was sung by Chris Petersen. After the competition concluded the tallies were made and Shawna Rogers was named as second attendant, Kristine Johansen as first attendant and Shala Pitchforth as Miss Emery 2005. Pitchforth was a jubilant winner as she smiled and waved at the audience. Miss Emery receives a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice and a new computer donated by Willie Frisbee and the Emery Service Club. First and second attendant winners also receive scholarship money.
