Emery Spartan Cheer Camp


The spartan cheerleaders are putting on a cheer camp for anyone 4-15 years old. On Aug. 2-4 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Emery Spartan Center. They will be teaching a cheer, chat, sideline dance and cheer fundamentals. There is a $25 charge and a T-shirt will be included. Wear your hair up and out of your face and no jewelry or black sole shoes. On Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. they will be performing what they have learned. Everyone is welcome to attend. Marriage Enhancement Workshop


There will be a Marriage Enhancement workshop on July 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carbon County Courthouse Conference room. It is sponsored by the Governor’s Commission on Marriage and will be presented by Utah State University Extension. Improve your marriage by learning the 3 C’s of relationships. Southeastern Utah Football Meetings


Starting July 25 there will be Southeastern Utah Football Officials Association Meetings on every Monday at 6 p.m. They will be held at Carbon High School in Room E-5. They are for new and experienced participants. For additional information call 637-6556.

Emery County Farm Bureau Talent Find


The Emery County Farm Bureau Talent Find will be held Aug. 4 from 4-6 p.m. under the Desertview Tent at the Emery County Fairgrounds. Pick up applications at your local library. For more information call Cassie Thatcher at 653-2199.

Star Gazing


Free star gazing will be held on Aug. 12 at 8:30 p.m. or dark at the Huntington Reservoir parking lot, west of Millers Flat turn off (Huntington mammoth discovery site). Guest speakers, Professor Don Burge and Professor Mark Bunnell will be there. Bring a jacket, chair and flashlight. Binoculars or telescope will be helpful but not required. Emery High Football


Emery High School Football practice will begin on Aug. 1 at 5 p.m. at the high school. Please bring football shoes, shirt and shorts. You may contact Coach Reynolds for further questions at 748-2625.

Huntington Beautification


Have you noticed the new street lights on Huntington’s Main Street? The Beautification Committee has decided that the town needs more of the lights along Main Street. If there are any residents who wish to make a donation toward acquiring more lights, take the donation to city hall. For more information contact Lorraine Dingman at 687-9459.

Open Class Exhibit


All open class exhibits will be accepted from 10 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 1 and from 12- 6 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the Emery County fair exhibit building. All vegetables, flowers and baked goods will be accepted from 9- 11 a.m. on Aug 3. 4-H exhibits will be accepted at the same times. Exhibits must be picked up from 9 a.m -noon. on Aug 8.

Castle Valley Pageant


The 2005 Castle Valley Pageant will be held July 28-30 and Aug. 2-6 at 9 p.m. each evening. Calling All Kids


On Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. we will be having a kids parade for our Emery County Fair. We need all of you to make this a great success. Emery County Fair Parade


We are inviting all to join in making the 2005 Emery County parade the best ever. Build a float as a family, church group, youth city council group, sports group, cheerleading group, FFA, 4-H, lifeguards, you name it. Our idea is to go back to the old days when we had floats and not just cars. Just think of the fun you’ll have making your first float. There will be cash prizes given away for many different categories. Show your Emery County spirit and build a float. Soldiers Seek Donations


Soldiers from the 115th Maintenance Company, Utah Army National Guard Unit, currently in Iraq, have adopted two schools there, and in their spare time, they are building desks and shelves in these schools. These soldiers are seeking sponsors that are willing to donate money and/or school supplies and equipment that these schools need. Design Arts Utah Exhibition


The Design Arts Program of the Utah Arts Council is having its third annual exhibit in tribute to design in Utah. It runs until July 29 at the Rio Gallery located in the historic Rio Grande Train Station, 300 South Rio Grande( 455 West) in Salt Lake City. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 to 5 p.m. (excluding state holidays).

Green River Kid’s Cafe


The Green River Community Center announces the sponsorship of the summer food service program. Free meals will be available to attending children. Meals will be served at the Green River Community Center in the Kid’s Cafe Monday-Friday. Morning snack-8:45-9 a.m.; lunch-12-12 :30 p.m. (both through the summer food program); and dinner (through the Utah Food Bank) from 4-4:30 p.m.

Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

AA and NA Meetings


AA and NA meetings will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. AA will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. NA meetings will be Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Pioneer Museum Hours


New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

Support Group for Parents

Financial Aid

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
