| Fair parade will be Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. |
The Emery County Fair begins tomorrow, Aug. 3 with its new format consisting of the new ideas, new dreams, and new beginnings. There is something for everyone and all county residents are encouraged to come out and take in the newly reworked fair.
Day one of the new fair will begin at 4 p.m. with a yard sale at which all county residents are welcome to come and set up a table to sell their things. This county-wide yard sale will be followed by a roast pork dinner, free to all of Emery County.
These events will take place at Castle Dale City Park. A portion of the street will be closed off to traffic for the yard sale.
On day two, Aug. 4, activities will begin at 11 a.m. This day will be Youth Day at the Fair. Activities will be geared to youth and teenagers with more traditional events in the evening hours.
The National Guard climbing wall will be set up in the fair park for all to climb for free. During the afternoon hours, a dunk tank will be available, also a mud tug-o-war game will be set up.
For those young people who like to eat competitively, a pie eating contest and an ice cream eating contest will be held.
Then at 4 p.m., the Farm Bureau Talent Find will take place under the Desertview Tent at the fairgrounds. At the same time the exhibits will open and then at 5 p.m., the Chamber of Commerce Lamb Fry will begin serving their traditional lamb dinner.
A new food court has been constructed at the fair park in Castle Dale. It is a grassy area just north of the Emery County Recreation building. Many different vendors will be set up with many types of foods so that every taste bud can be satisfied.
Also on day two, Ever’ Wednesday will perform in the Desertview Tent from 6-7 p.m. To cap off the events for Youth Day at the Fair, a dance will be held under the Utah Power Pavilion from 8-11 p.m., with music by Joel. There will be prizes and drawings for three computers.

Kids Day activities will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5. Children can enjoy inflatable toys and a dunking tank. Tickets for these things are available for a small fee.
Other free events for the kids are remote control car races (bring your own car), the National Guard climbing wall, face painting, and all sorts of relay races and fun things to do.
Kids can dig in the sawdust for prizes, toss water balloons at cutout faces, compete in eating contests, and sing in a karaoke contest. More events are planned throughout the day.
Beginning at 4 p.m., the pet show will be held for kids to bring their pets to compete. The baby Olympics will follow the pet show at 5 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., Brandie Frampton will perform under the Desertview Tent.
Senior day at the fair will be held Aug. 5 also. Emery County seniors are welcome to the luncheon that will be held from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. More activities are planned for the seniors throughout the afternoon.
Aug. 6 will begin at 9 a.m. with the kids parade, followed by the big parade at 10 a.m. Activities and entertainment are planned throughout the day at the fairgrounds. Vendors will be set up in the fair park, and entertainment by Coupe De Ville will be presented in the Desertview Tent from 3-4 p.m.
From noon-4 p.m., beauty makeovers by the Nail Emporium, and home makeovers featuring Christy Guymon as the guest speaker, will be taking place in the Desertview Tent. Then at 5 p.m. a new event to the fair will be the Sportsmans Expo which will feature displays of animal mounts, and elk and predator calling contests, and a guest speaker.
Nashville recording artists “Highway 101” will be in concert. Opening act for “Highway 101” will be J. Marc Bailey and his band. This free concert begins at 7 p.m.
Many nice prizes have been donated to be given away at the concert to the people of Emery County. These include three computers, by Emery County, and an ATV donated by Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife. Desertview Federal Credit Union has donated a trip for two to Las Vegas and NASCAR seats for next March, including three nights at the Aladdin. They have also given a stock show pig, cut and wrapped, and a two night stay in Mesquite at the Falcon Ridge Hotel including two rounds of golf. These prizes will be given away during the concert and you must be present to win.
The Museum of the San Rafael is hosting the San Rafael Folk Art Festival July 28-30 and Aug. 2-6. Displays, exhibits, demonstrations, and entertainment will run each day from noon-6 p.m. at the museum located at 64 North 100 East in Castle Dale.
This folk art festival focuses on the crafts and talents that have endured through the pioneer time up to today. There will be demonstrations showing: tatting, sheared rugs, quilting, wood carving, pottery making, artwork, soap making, spinning wool, rag rugs, and much, much more. For the children, atlatl throwing will be presented outside the museum. Live entertainment will be available daily, throughout each day.
