Emery High Girls Tennis


Any girl, 9-12 grade, who wants to play tennis is encouraged to come to the high school tennis court on Aug. 15 at 8 a.m.to sign up and begin practices.

Ladies ATV Ride


On Sept. 7 during the Arapeen ATV Jamboree, a special ladies ride will be held. The ride will be the Black Dragon ride and is rated beginner. Lunch will be catered on the trail for a small fee. For more information contact Corey at 381-2431 or 749-6301.

ATV Rodeo


The FFA students at Emery High School are sponsoring an ATV rodeo to be held in conjunction with the Arapeen ATV Jamboree. The ATV rodeo will be held Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferron rodeo grounds. All ATV riders are encouraged to enter the rodeo. There will be different divisions and many events. For more information and to register contact Corinne Dalton or one of the FFA students.

Peach Days Soapbox Derby


The Peach Days soapbox derby will be held Sept. 10. There is no entrance fee, however, drivers must be at least 6 years of age and must have a signed permissions slip if they are under 18 in order to participate. Entry forms must be turned in to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Sept. 7. Entry forms and rules are available at City Hall during regular business hours. Races will be divided into similar age groups with one race as an open class. Prizes will be awarded to the winning participants and to the cars with the most original design.

Earth Dreams

Food Handlers Classes


There will be food handlers classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price on Aug. 24 and Sept. 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale on Aug. 25 and Sept. 29 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Health Department, 25 West Main Street, Castle Dale. Utah Arts Council Grants


Guidelines and application forms are now available for Utah Arts Council grants to help nonprofit organizations fund arts-related activities. 1985 Class Reunion


A 20 year class reunion will be held for the Emery High graduating class of 1985. A get together will be held at the Joe’s Valley pavilion, Bring your lunch, bring your children, and play some games. Miss Peach Days Pageant


The Miss Peach Days Pageant will be held Aug. 13 at the Emery High School auditorium. Little miss will be at 6 p.m., and junior miss and Miss Peach Days will begin at 7 p.m.

Star Gazing


Free star gazing will be held on Aug. 12 at 8:30 p.m. or dark at the Huntington Reservoir parking lot, west of Millers Flat turn off (Huntington mammoth discovery site). Guest speakers, Professor Don Burge and Professor Mark Bunnell will be there. Bring a jacket, chair and flashlight. Binoculars or telescope will be helpful but not required. San Rafael Registration


San Rafael Junior High registration will be held on Aug. 10 from 9-6 p.m. Pictures will be taken at the registration. More information will be sent in the mail.

Huntington Beautification


Have you noticed the new street lights on Huntington’s Main Street? The Beautification Committee has decided that the town needs more of the lights along Main Street. Soldiers Seek Donations


Soldiers from the 115th Maintenance Company, Utah Army National Guard Unit, currently in Iraq, have adopted two schools there, and in their spare time, they are building desks and shelves in these schools. These soldiers are seeking sponsors that are willing to donate money and/or school supplies and equipment that these schools need. Muddy Creek Bridge Update


Construction on the new Muddy Creek Bridge (SR-10, Emery Bridge) will run through the end of August. Traffic will continue to run on the detour road until after the construction of the new bridge is complete. Note that the speed limit through the construction zone will be 35 m.p.h. Design Arts Utah Exhibition


The Design Arts Program of the Utah Arts Council is having its third annual exhibit in tribute to design in Utah. It runs until July 29 at the Rio Gallery located in the historic Rio Grande Train Station, 300 South Rio Grande( 455 West) in Salt Lake City. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (excluding state holidays).

Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

AA and NA Meetings


AA and NA meetings will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. AA will be Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. NA meetings will be Thursday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Pioneer Museum Hours


New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
