Quarterback Dave Justice looks for running room around the corner.

The Emery Spartans suffered through a 41-point loss at the hands of the 2-A Grand Red Devils last Friday night in Castle Dale. The Red Devils came to Emery hoping to show off their University of Utah signee, #72 Zane Taylor, and instead ended up showing off their whole team.
Coach Kevin Reynolds had this to say after the game, “We could not contain their nose guard tonight, that made it tough to run almost anything as he was always in our backfield. They are a good team; I was impressed by the play of their line, both offensively and defensively. We are not very big and they are, we simply could not stop them.”
Grand fumbled the ball at the Emery nine yard line on their opening drive and then scored five straight times to lead at the half 35-0. They had 312 yards of total offense in their six possessions.
Emery had the ball seven times and racked up 24 yards of total offense. Quarterback Dave Justice continually had to improvise, as the Emery line could not keep Grand out of the Emery backfield.
After being 1-9 in passing till the last drive, Emery showed that they are capable of putting the ball in the air as Justice completed four straight passes to get Emery to the Grand two yard line before time ran out.
Justice completed a 14-yarder to Trevor Thompson, an 11-yarder to Landon Thomas, a 27-yarder to Thompson again and an 8-yarder to Tyler Swenson to get Emery inside the Grand five yard line.
Coach Reynolds on his team, “We did do some good things in the second half. We now know we have some work to do. In the first half, we had guys going the wrong way at the wrong time. Our execution was not there tonight. Execution was supposed to be the heart and soul of this team this season but it was absent tonight. We will work on it.”
Emery is at home this week as Canyon View comes to town Friday night. Coach Reynolds thought they have a couple of pretty good running backs back this year. They lost a lot of people from last season so they are basically new just like us.
Justice finished the game with 24 carries for 97 yards. He completed five of 14 passes for 62 yards. The other Emery backs finished with nine carries for seven yards.
