Motorcycle Rider Dies on I-70

By By

On Aug. 12 a one car rollover occurred on I-70 when a male driver went to sleep behind the wheel. He received bumps and bruises but was OK at the scene of the accident. The Utah Highway patrol had one lane of traffic closed for cleanup of the accident when another accident happened at the scene.
A semi-truck and a motorcycle had made the lane change to the inside lane of traffic when the motorcycle apparently slowed down to observe the previous accident. The motorcycle was then bumped by the semi-truck. The motorcycle laid on its side, slid down the freeway and the driver of the motorcycle was run over by the right tire of the truck.
The motorcycle driver, Pennsylvania resident Robert L. Whitehall, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, Ronald D. Parson, 48, of Idaho, was shaken, but did not suffer any physical injuries. A co-driver was also in the truck and was uninjured. The vehicles were heading east towards Green River at the time of the accident.
