Ferron Peach Days Exhibits and Dessert Contest


Exhibits and entries for the dessert contest will be accepted at City Hall on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Fresh items and baked goods on Sept. 8 until 10 a.m.

Wedge Festival

Free Screenings


Free screenings will be held at Emery Medical Center. They are: prostate screening, 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 13, by Lowell Morris; breast exams, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. by Christine Bardsley; and skin screening from 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 19 by Otto Dickman. Call in advance for an appointment. Charts will not be pulled, so limit the visit to the screening only. Emery Medical Center can be reached at 381-2305 and is located at 90 West Main Street in Castle Dale.

Preschool Story Time


Preschool story time’s theme for September is “Color me Reading.” It will be held on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Castle Dale Library. Sept. 13 is colors; Sept. 20 is blue and Sept. 27 is yellow.

“Seussical” Tryouts


The Emery County community theatre will be holding tryouts of the musical “Seussical” on Sept. 20-21 in the Emery High Auditorium from 7-8:30 p.m. There will be open tryouts for anyone 8-80, especially teenagers. It will be performed Feb. 9, 10,11 and 13. You must be to every practice a minimum of three times a week from December through the performance and every day the last two weeks before the production. If you must miss tryouts call Ann Murdoch at 653-2943. Tryout packets will be available at your local library starting Sept. 6. Come prepared with something from the packet and a 30 second to one minute rendition of a song of your choice.

MS Support Group


MS support groupwill have a special meeting on pain management and MS research featuring Dr. Bradford D. Hare MD, PhD, and Dr. John Rose MD. It will be held on Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the SoutheasternUtah District Health Deptartment, 28 South 100 East, Price. RSVP at 637-0712. Also the MS support group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at South Eastern Utah District. Health Deptartment, 28 South 100 East, Price. Take a Book Break


Take a book break for adults will be held on Sept. 7 at noon at the Castle Dale library. Bring your favorite book and talk about it or hear others tell you about a great book they have read. Let your kids catch you reading. Refreshments will be served.

MS Research


Cognition, memory, fatigue and new developments in MS research will be talked about at an evening with Dr. Dennis Thoen MD, and Emily Kriech ,PA-C, on Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Ballroom, 838 Westwood Blvd., Price. Please RSVP. For information, call 637-0712.

Immunization Notice


There will be no immunizations given at the Southeastern Utah District Health Department in Castle Dale on Sept. 19. For immunizations during this time call the Price office at 637-3671. Immunizations will resume the following week on Sept. 26 from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Wanted by the Orangeville DUP


The Rock Canyon Trail Camp wants anyone whose ancestors crossed the plains before 1869. Join the Rock Canyon Trail DUP Camp at the opening social Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. in the Orangeville City Park. Bring a potluck.

Camp Dale DUP


The opening social for the Camp Dale DUP will be held on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. A luncheon will be served. You don’t need to be a member of the DUP in order to attend. Come and join us and have a good time.

Crop Disaster Program


If you experienced below normal production for your crops in 2003 or 2004 because of drought conditions, this program can help to reimburse your losses if they are in excess of 35 percent. You will need to provide production evidence and meet other eligibility requirements. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 9. For more information or to sign up call 435-381-2300.

Veterans, Widows and Dependents


A Field Service Officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW), Department Service Office in Salt Lake City, will be in our area to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. to qualify for assistance. The VFW Field Service Officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center on Sept. 15 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Huntington DUP


Huntington Camp DUP will hold a meeting in the Huntington Senior Center on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come.

Womens Volleyball


The Emery County womens volleyball organization is in need of a new director. Without a volunteer to fill this position, there will be no womens volleyball this year. Call Cassie Lake at 653-2423 or 749-0682.

Farm Bill Forum


U.S. Department of Agriculture secretary, Mike Johanns is scheduled to hold a Farm Bill Forum in Utah from 12-3 p.m. on Sept. 14 in the Pioneer Building at the Utah State Fairpark. Any Utah farmer or rancher who would like to comment on the proposed 2007 Farm Bill is encouraged to attend and make comment. Livestock Assistance Program


If you suffered at least a 40 percent loss on your non-irrigated pasture land in 2003 because of drought, you may be eligible to receive a payment to reimburse you for your grazing losses. The payment is contingent on the number of eligible livestock and sufficient grazing to support those livestock. The sign up deadline is Sept. 9. Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair


An Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair will be held Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Building, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. There will be educational booths with information regarding food storage, emergency supplies, fire, HAZMAT, mental health, and many more subjects pertaining to health and emergency preparedness. There will also be entertainment provided, and concessions will be available.

AWANA Club


AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. The fun will begin on Sept. 7 with games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.

ATV Rodeo


The FFA students at Emery High School are sponsoring an ATV rodeo to be held in conjunction with the Arapeen ATV Jamboree. The ATV rodeo will be held Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferron rodeo grounds. Everyone is welcome to enter the rodeo, and there will be different divisions and many events. For more information and to register contact Corinne Daltonat 286-2464, or one of the FFA students.

Peach Days Soapbox


The Peach Days soapbox derby will be held Sept. 10. There is no entrance fee, however, drivers must be at least 6 years of age and must have a signed permissions slip if they are under 18 in order to participate. Entry forms must be turned in to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Sept. 7. Entry forms and rules are available at City hall during regular business hours.

Mission San Rafael Fund Raiser


Mission San Rafael Catholic church is sponsoring a free concert/dinner fundraiser to raise funds for their classrooms, on Sept. 11 from 4-8 p.m. at Pioneer Park in Price. The concert is free, and a small charge for the dinner. There will also be a booth offering homemade pastries.
