Meet Your Candidate in Orangeville
Meet the candidate nights will be held in Orangeville on Sept. 21 and 28 at City Hall at 7 p.m. Don’t miss the opportunity to get to know who is running and support your candidate. Citizens will have the opportunity to question the candidates. The mayoral candidates night will be Sept. 21, and those candidates are: Paul Riddle, Bart Cox, and Jeff Tuttle. The candidates for council seats will be held Sept. 28, and those candidates are: Marc Stilson, Shaun Jeffs, Carol Larsen, Tom Madsen, Carol Ware, James Davis, Danette Waite, and Kent Peterson.
Main Street Development Seminar
The Emery County Chamber of Commerce presents Main Street Development Seminar on Sept. 29, in the Castle Dale Senior Citizen building from 1-2 p.m. Lunch will be served. Guest speaker will be Allen Henry, the city manager for Panguitch. He will present information about money available to towns for Main Street improvements. Emery County Historical Society
A service project at the Swinging Bridge will be held on Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. There will be heavy work involved. If you can help, contact Ray Petersen at 381-5552 or Joyce at 381-2510. A hot dog roast and pot luck will be held at noon, with a short program following lunch. The Emery County Historic Preservation Committee is in charge of the restoration of the Swinging Bridge. Many volunteers are needed.
Farmers Market
The final farmers market will be held on Sept. 17 at the Emery County Recreation building in Castle Dale. It will be from 9 a.m.-noon and along with the produce and craft items for sale, a chili cook off will be held with prizes for the winners.
Standard Parachute Plant in Manti

IronHorse Raceway in Huntington will host a points race on Sept. 17-18. Sign-ups begin on Friday at 5 p.m. Practice starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Free State Parks Day Events
In conjunction with National Public Lands Day, Utah State Parks and Recreation offers Free State Parks Day Saturday, Sept. 24. Day-use fees will be waived at all Utah state parks.
NFPA Lanches Clothing Drive and Relief Fund for Foster Family Hurricane Victims
The National Foster Parent Association has launched a clothing drive and relief fund to support foster families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. While clothing for all ages is needed, there is particular need for new underwear and clothing for infants aged 0-24 months. Clothing donations should be sent via U.S. mail or UPS to the Adoptive and Foster Parent Association of Georgia, addressed to Sharon Carlson, 600 Bear Road, Bogart, GA, 30622. In addition, NFPA is collecting monetary donations that will be used as cash grants and gift cards for affected foster families. Habitat for Humanity

Free Screenings
Free screenings will be held at Emery Medical Center. They are: prostate screening, 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 13, by Lowell Morris; breast exams, Sept. 15 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. by Christine Bardsley; and skin screening from 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 19 by Otto Dickman. Call in advance for an appointment. Charts will not be pulled, so limit the visit to the screening only. Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country has an urgent need for two construction supervisors to work alternate weekends in the framing up and roofing stage of the house being built in Castle Dale. Call Katherine (650-0074) or Sylvia (687-9184). Volunteers are also needed each workday before winter weather sets in. A variety of committee members are needed to make decisions and carry on affiliate business. Meetings held the second Monday of each month, 6:30 p.m. at the Carbon County Courthouse.
Preschool Story Time
Preschool story time’s theme for September is “Color me Reading.” It will be held on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Castle Dale Library. Sept. 20 is blue and Sept. 27 is yellow.
“Seussical” Tryouts
The Emery County community theatre will be holding tryouts of the musical “Seussical” on Sept. 20-21 in the Emery High Auditorium from 7-8:30 p.m. There will be open tryouts for anyone 8-80, especially teenagers. It will be performed Feb. 9, 10,11 and 13. You must be to every practice a minimum of three times a week from December through the performance and every day the last two weeks before the production. If you must miss tryouts call Ann Murdoch at 653-2943. Tryout packets will be available at your local library starting Sept. 6. Come prepared with something from the packet and a 30 second to one minute rendition of a song of your choice.
MS Support Group
The MS support group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at South Eastern Utah District. Health Dept., 28 South 100 East, Price. Family members and caregivers are welcome too. Wheelchair accessible.
MS Research
Cognition, memory, fatigue and new developments in MS research will be talked about at an evening with Dr. Dennis Thoen MD, Western Neurological Associates and Emily Kriech, PA-C. Immunization Notice
There will be no immunizations given at the Southeastern Utah District Health Department in Castle Dale on Mon., Sept. 19. For immunizations during this time call the Price office at 637-3671. Immunizations will resume the following week on Sept. 26 from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Hearing Screening Testing
Emery School District will be screening the hearing ability of our students throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who do not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.
Veterans, Widows and Dependents
A Field Service Officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. (VFW), Department Service Office in Salt Lake City, will be in our area to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. to qualify for assistance. The VFW Field Service Officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center on Sept. 15 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Womens Volleyball

Farm Bill Forum
U.S. Department of Agriculture secretary, Mike Johanns is scheduled to hold a Farm Bill Forum in Utah from 12-3 p.m. on Sept. 14 in the Pioneer Building at the Utah State Fairpark. Any Utah farmer or rancher who would like to comment on the proposed 2007 Farm Bill is encouraged to attend and make comment. Tip Line for Drug Violations
A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.
Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair
An Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair will be held Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Building, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. There will be educational booths with information regarding food storage, emergency supplies, fire, HAZMAT, mental health, and many more subjects pertaining to health and emergency preparedness. There will also be entertainment provided, and concessions will be available.
AWANA Club
AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.
Food Handlers Classes
There will be food handlers classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli’s.
