CEU Book Sale

Canyon View Parent/Teacher Conference


Canyon View Parent/Teacher Conference will take place on Oct. 4 from 3-9 p.m. At that time they will hand out mid-term report cards while teachers will be on hand to visit with parents. Part time teachers David Bird and Reed Fehlberg will be available from 3-6 p.m. and Jackie Weihing from 3-4:30 p.m. and 7:30-9 p.m.

Free Prostate Screening


In a Utah Department of Health article which ran in the Sept. 13 issue of the Emery County Progress, a wrong telephone number was given. The correct number for information about the dates and times of the screenings is 1-888-222-2542. The number was sent out incorrectly by the health department.

Cleveland Fall Burn Window


Cleveland Town’s fall burn window will be from Sept. 24-Oct. 23. Cleveland Town requires a burn permit for everyone who plans a controlled burn. To obtain a permit, visit town hall, or call 653-2310, or from Greg Oliver at 653-2809. This includes burning of yard waste. There is no fee for the permit.

Relationship Building Seminar


A Relationship Building Seminar ” Fulfilling the Promise… Building Joy in Marriage and Family Living” will be presented by LeRoy and Lorna Franke. It will be held on Sept. 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Jennifer Leavitt Building in the Alumni room on the CEU campus.

Annual Republican Fall Dinner


The annual Republican fall dinner and social will be held Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at Critter Country Fixins, 330 West Highway 29, Castle Dale. Support the Emery County Republican Party. Menu will consist of a full steak dinner, and there is a charge.

Huntington City Open Burn Period


Huntington City’s fall open burn period will be Sept. 24-Oct. 23. Burn permits are required and can be picked up at city hall. All burning must be done from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Cost to extinguish fires and fines may be imposed. October will be the last limb pick up, do not put any limbs on the street after Oct. 9.

Meet Your Candidate in Orangeville


Meet the candidate nights will be held in Orangeville on Sept. 21 and 28 at City Hall at 7 p.m. Don’t miss the opportunity to get to know who is running and support your candidate. Citizens will have the opportunity to question the candidates. The mayoral candidates night will be Sept. 21, and those candidates are: Paul Riddle, Bart Cox, and Jeff Tuttle. Main Street Development Seminar


The Emery County Chamber of Commerce presents Main Street Development Seminar on Sept. 29, in the Castle Dale Senior Citizen building from 1-2 p.m. Lunch will be served. Guest speaker will be Allen Henry, the city manager for Panguitch. He will present information about money available to towns for Main Street improvements. Free State Parks Day Events


In conjunction with National Public Lands Day, Utah State Parks and Recreation offers Free State Parks Day Sat., Sept. 24. Day-use fees will be waived at all Utah state parks.

NFPA Launches Clothing Drive and Relief Fund for Foster Family Hurricane Victims


The National Foster Parent Association has launched a clothing drive and relief fund to support foster families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. While clothing for all ages is needed, there is particular need for new underwear and clothing for infants aged 0-24 months. Clothing donations should be sent via U.S. mail or UPS to the Adoptive and Foster Parent Association of Georgia, addressed to Sharon Carlson, 600 Bear Road, Bogart, GA, 30622. In addition, NFPA is collecting monetary donations that will be used as cash grants and gift cards for affected foster families. UP&L retirees will hold an information meeting on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in the board of education building in Price. Habitat for Humanity


Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country has an urgent need for two construction supervisors to work alternate weekends in the framing up and roofing stage of the house being built in Castle Dale. Call Sylvia at 687-9184. Volunteers are also needed each workday before winter weather sets in. A variety of committee members are needed to make decisions and carry on affiliate business. Meetings held the second Monday of each month, 6:30 p.m., at the Carbon County Courthouse.

Preschool Story Time


Preschool story time’s theme for September is “Color me Reading.” It will be held on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Castle Dale Library. Sept. 27 is yellow.

MS Support Group


The MS support group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at South Eastern Utah District. Health Dept., 28 South 100 East, Price. Family members and caregivers are welcome too. Wheelchair accessible.

Remembering 4-H Leaders

Hearing Screening Testing


Emery School District will be screening the hearing ability of our students throughout the school year. This testing will be done for all students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, special education and students referred by their teacher or parent. Any parents who do not want their child to be given a hearing screening test should call their school and tell the secretary.

Womens Volleyball


The Emery County womens volleyball organization is in need of a new director. Without a volunteer to fill this position, there will be no womens volleyball this year. Call Cassie Lake at 653-2423 or 749-0682.

Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair


An Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair will be held Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Building, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. There will be educational booths with information regarding food storage, emergency supplies, fire, HAZMAT, mental health, and many more subjects pertaining to health and emergency preparedness. There will also be entertainment provided, and concessions will be available.

AWANA Club


AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. There will be fun, games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.

Food Handlers Classes


There will be food handlers classes for all persons working in restaurants, bars, nursing homes, school cafeterias, convenience stores or grocery deli’s. Classes will be taught in Price on Sept. 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale on Sept. 29 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Health Department , 25 West Main Street, Castle Dale. Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
