Justin Miller is named National Rookie of the Year.
After finishing in fourth place in bareback riding at the Utah State High School Rodeo Finals in June, Justin Miller went on to Gillette, Wyo., to the National High School Finals. In Gillette, he rode all three broncs to finish in ninth place overall. Justin was proud to wear a top 10 buckle as well as to receive a scholarship award for his rides. The next week he learned that he had been named National Bareback Rookie of the Year by the National High School Rodeo Association. This honor, sponsored by the Earl Brumbaugh Memorial Foundation, is awarded to the first year competitor who advances the farthest in national competition. Justin is the son of Scott and Lesa Miller of Huntington.
Other Emery Rodeo Team members also went on to other competitions after State Finals.
Cade Whittle traveled to Gillette, Wyo., where he and his cutting horse, Wheeling Shady Lady, finished in the top 30 out of 105 cutters. The Utah team finished in second place behind Texas, intensifying the rivalry for next year.
Brock Winn competed in Fallon, Nev., at the Silver State Invitational Rodeo with the first place Utah Team. Brock finished in the top 10 in saddle bronc riding and proudly wears a First Place Team jacket.
Revis Rogers, Tawn Jewkes, and Wacey Allred went to Panguitch, to the Panguitch Invitational. As a grand finale to his last High School Rodeo, Revis rode all three bulls to win the saddle.

Emery Rodeo Club Elects Officers
At their first meeting of the 2005-2006 Rodeo Season, Emery Rodeo Club members elected the following officers: Wacey Allred, President; Brock Winn, Vice-President; Tawn Jewkes, Secretary.
With the adult advisors, the Rodeo Club is looking forward to an exciting year. They are making a quilt to be raffled as a fund raiser and are planning several other events and projects. Come and support these outstanding young athletes.
Fall Rodeo Begins
Several of Emery County’s rodeo athletes have begun a very successful season with lots of State Finals qualifiers in the first few weeks. The first rodeo was held in Panguitch on Aug. 12 and 13. In Panguitch, Wacey Allred was first in bullriding and Colton Grange and his partner Kelly Peterson placed 10th in team roping. At Bryce Valley that same weekend, Justin Miller won the bareback riding and Andy Sitterud and his partner Chad Haskell placed second in team roping.
At the North Utah County Rodeo on Aug. 20, in Pleasant Grove, Brock Winn qualified with a fourth place in saddle bronc riding.
At the Uintah Basin Rodeo in Vernal, on Sept. 3, Andy Sitterud placed fifth in calf roping while Cade Whittle placed third in cow cutting. Carbon and Emery also held their cuttings in Vernal. Cade placed fifth in Carbon’s cutting and fourth in the Emery cutting.
