Cheer Camp


The Emery Spartans winter cheer camp will be held on Nov. 15-17 at Orangeville Elementary from 3:30-5 p.m. Anyone can register with an Emery High cheerleader or at the door. Registration fee is $25 per child. Age groups range from 4-15. No black sole shoes or jewelry will be allowed and wear your hair up and out of the face.

Christmas Extravaganza


A Christmas Extravaganza fundraiser will be held on Dec. 3 from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center. There will be trees and wreaths on display, booths, food, entertainment and Santa from noon-2 p.m. Decorated trees and wreaths will be auctioned off at 7 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Family Support and Children’s Justice Center. Hunter Safety Class


A hunter safety class will be held the week of Nov. 15 at the Emery County Recreation Center from 4-6 p.m. You must be 11 years or older to attend this class. This class is limited to the first 20 pre-registered students. You may pre-register at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. Bread ‘N Soup


It’s Bread ‘N Soup time again at the College of Eastern Utah. It will be held Nov. 7, 14 and 21 from 4:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Beauty and the Beast Comes to Emery High


The Emery High Drama Department presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on Nov. 17-19 in the Emery High Auditorium. Performance begins at 7 p.m. each evening.

Attention All Seniors


The Medicare prescription drug meeting sites have changed. The Nov. 9 meeting will be held at the Emery Senior Center. The Nov. 10 meeting will be held at the Castle Dale Senior Center. Cassie Ewell Donation


Cassie (Cox) Ewell was born with scoliosis of the spine. She has had six surgeries with more on the way. For anyone interested in helping the Ewells with this financial burden a Cassie Ewell donation account has been set up through any Zions First National Bank. This account will be open for one month beginning Nov. 1.

Quilts of Valor


Quilts of Valor, a program that provides quilts to each injured serviceman or woman, is being organized in Emery County. This program needs funds and interested people to help with making the quilts. For more information contact Hazel McMullin at 653-2246.

Emery Historical Society


The Emery County Historical Society will hold its Veterans Day program on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. All veterans are welcome to come to the night of honoring them. Steve Thornton, local guardsman, having just returned from his second tour in Iraq will be the speaker and he will also present a slide show.

Know Before You Go


A snowmobile education class will be held Nov. 9 at the old courthouse building beginning at 7 p.m. Remember this class is to make youth ages 8-16 legal to drive on public lands. Folk Art Apprenticeship Grants


Application for the 2006 Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program Grants are now available through the Utah Arts Council. Interested individuals should call George Schoemaker at 801-533-5760. The grant deadline is Dec. 31.

DUP Camp Dale


The Camp Dale DUPs will hold their regular meeting on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Citizen Center. You need not be a member to come and enjoy time with the members.

Defensive Driving Classes


The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four hour defensive driving course. Drivers may complete the course for a 50 point reduction from their Utah driving record. Individuals 55 years of age and older, may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course. Flu Vaccines


Flu shots will be given daily for high risk individuals at Southeastern Utah District Health Department located at 25 West Main in Castle Dale from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Beginning Oct. 24, flu vaccine will be given to anyone who requests it during the same time period.

Veteran’s Widows and Dependents


A field officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be here on Nov. 9 at 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Price Workforce Service Center. He will help assist in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits.

Food Handlers Classes


There will be food handlers classses for all persons working in food handling establishments. Classes will be taught in Price on Nov. 29, and Dec. 29, at 9 a.m. and 4 and 7 p.m., in the Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East, Price. Depression and Bipolar Alliance


A Depression and Bipolar Alliance (DBSA) support group is now forming in Sanpete County. DBSA groups are peer-led, confidential and supportive meetings for those who suffer from depression and bipolar syndrome, and their families and friends. MS Support Group

Womens Volleyball

Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

AWANA Club


AWANA club for children age 3 through sixth grade will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. There will be fun, games, Bible lessons, treats and fun. The theme for this year is Red, White, and Blue, the Lord Loves You. For more information call 653-2361.

Project ChildSafe

New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.
