Betty Gleave
PRICE- Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, Betty Kocalis Mangum Gleave, age 82, passed away Nov. 2, 2005 in Price.
She was born on Jan. 31, 1923 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Christos and Bess Tucker Kocalis.
Married Max H. Mangum, Sept. 8, 1941 in Yuma, Ariz.; he passed away Feb. 13, 1946. Married Deward S. Gleave in Fredonia Ariz; Deward died May 23, 1955.
Member Greek Orthodox Church. Betty was a longtime resident of Carbon County where she was presently employed at the Manti-LaSal National Forest Service Office in Price for many years. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Betty leaves behind three sons, Kurt of Park City; Terry of Price; Dale (Val) of Page Ariz.; two step-daughters, Gladys Wilson of Magna: Dixie Chastin of Roy; sister, Diana of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Bill of Chiloquin, Ore.; and seven loving grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her sister, Helen; brothers, George and Tom.
Funeral service, Fri., Nov. 11 at 10 a.m., Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Trisagion service, Thursday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment at 2 p.m. Richfield City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 688, Price, Utah 84501.
Jack W. Jenkins
Jack W. Jenkins, age 63, of Ferron, passed away peacefully on Sat. Nov. 5, at his home. He was born Aug. 5, 1942 in Butte, Mont., to George Wyatt and Wanda Bohleen Jenkins. Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved being with his grandson “Little Jack.” He lived in Ferron most of his life where he has many good friends. Jack served his country proudly in the US Army.
He is survived by his daughters Jackie Barney of Ferron, Janeen Lee of Georgia; a son, Kevin (Jenny) Walker of Delta; a sister, Gay (Joe) Tidwell of Wellington; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wed. Nov. 9 at the Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale at 1 p.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment in the Ferron Cemetery.
Bruce Nichols Denison
CASTLE DALE-Our beloved brother, uncle and friend returned to his Heavenly Father Oct. 31, 2005, after an extended illness. Bruce was the son of David and Dora Nichols Denison. He was born Oct. 3, 1927 in Castle Dale.
Bruce graduated from College of Eastern Utah with a degree in carpentry. He was a master carpenter. He worked as a custodian for the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center for many years. When he retired he was awarded a special plaque for his diligent service. Bruce was blessed with a dry wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his sisters, Vera (Max) Finley, Price, and Helen (Kirk) Snow, West Valley City. Also many nieces and nephews. He was very special to all of them. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother David, who died Oct. 11, 2005.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the loving care he received at the Arlington Hills Rehabilitation Center in Salt Lake City, where he resided for many years.
Funeral services were held Sat. Nov. 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Fausett Mortuary Chapel in Castle Dale with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial in the Castle Dale Cemetery.
Curtis Orvil Johnson
Curtis Orvil Johnson, age 62 passed away on Sat., Nov. 5 in Cedar City. He was born on April 8, 1943 in Cleveland to Delcina and Orvil Johnson. Curtis grew up in Hiawatha and graduated from Carbon High school. Curtis obtained a bachelors degree from the University of Utah and a masters degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
After graduation from the U of U, Curtis moved to Cedar City where he began his career with Job Service and later became the Employment Center Manager. He was appointed by Governor Leavitt to be the last Administrator of Job Service and then the Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Workforce Service. Curtis retired in 2002 after 32 years of public service.
Curtis loved the outdoors and spent many hours with his friends and family fishing, camping, hunting, hiking and four-wheeling. He was an avid golfer and loved tennis, dancing and music. Curtis spent many years as a Scout Master and also coached a little league baseball team. He was a member of the Cedar City Rotary, Cedar City and Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and Cedar City Elks Lodge.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Travis (Tracey) Johnson, Cedar City and Amber (David) Bringhurst, Parowan; sister, Kay Colosimo and Jack Leautaud, Price; grandchildren, Jesse, Skylar and Brandon Johnson, Alysha Hardy and Kallie Jo Stewart; mother-in-law, Venice Knight, Delta; brother-in-law, Newel B. Knight (Jackie) Reno, Nev.; sister-in-laws, Krys Knight, Ogden and Charlene (James) Hasenyager, Huntsville; niece and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his mother; Delcina Colosimo; father, Orvil Johnson; step-father, Sam Colosimo and father-in-law, Newel W. Knight.
The family would like to thank Dr. Taj Becker and her staff and Dr. Philip Smith and his staff for the loving care and support they provided to Curtis and his family. The family would also like to thank the staff at Emerald Pointe Assisted Living Center, Odyssey Hospice and the Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center who lovingly cared for Curtis. Words cannot adequately express our thanks to our friends, co-workers and family who were always there when we needed them.
A memorial service will be held Fri., Nov. 11 at Southern Utah Mortuary, 195 North 300 West, Cedar City at noon. Friends may call Thurs., Nov. 10 from 6-8 p.m. and Fri., Nov. 11 from 10-11:45 a.m.
