Hunter Safety Class


A hunter safety class will be held the week of Nov. 15 at the Emery County Recreation Center from 4-6 p.m. You must be 11 years or older to attend this class. This class is limited to the first 20 pre-registered students. You may pre-register at the Emery County Recreation Center, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. Bread ‘N Soup


It’s Bread ‘N Soup time again at the College of Eastern Utah. It will be held on Nov. 21 from 4:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Beauty and the Beast Comes to Emery High


The Emery High Drama Department presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on Nov. 17-19 in the Emery High Auditorium. Performance begins at 7 p.m. each evening.

Cassie Ewell Donation


Cassie (Cox) Ewell was born with scoliosis of the spine. She has had six surgeries with more on the way. For any interested in helping the Ewell’s with this financial burden a Cassie Ewell Donation account has been set up through any Zions First National Bank. This account will be open for one month beginning Nov. 1.

Folk Art Apprenticeship Grants


Application for the 2006 Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program Grants are now available through the Utah Arts Council. Interested individuals should call George Schoemaker at 801-533-5760. The grant deadline is Dec. 31.

Festive Fridays with the USU Extension


The USU Extension in Castle Dale will host Festive Fridays in the county building in the small conference room. On these days, the making of special crafts expecially for Christmas giving will be demostrated. Nov, 18-make your own mixes, 12:15-1:15 p.m.; Dec. 2-lotions and potions, 3 p.m., pre-registration is a must for this class and there is a fee for the kit; Dec. 9-inexpensive gift ideas, 12:1-1:15 p.m.; and Dec. 16-toothbrush rag rug, 12:15 p.m., bring your own fabric, and there is a small fee. Flu Vaccines


Flu shots will be given daily for high risk individuals at Southeastern Utah District Health Department located at 25 West Main in Castle Dale from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Food Handlers Classes

Operation Home Support

Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

Pioneer Museum Hours


New hours for the Pioneer Museum are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and Saturday noon-4 p.m. Share your pioneer heritage with family and friends.

New Emery County Archives Hours


Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

Support Group for Parents

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.

Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area.
