Emery’s Vic Rosen takes a shot. |
The Emery Spartans went to the Holiday break with a win and a loss. The Spartans traveled to St. George and lost a close game at Dixie 51-46. Emery had a record of 6-1 when the game began and Dixie had a record of 6-2 as both teams were ranked by the big papers in the state.
Emery outscored the Flyers 13-6 in the first quarter but was then outscored by three points in each of the last three quarters to pick up a loss. Leading the way for Emery was Darrin Winn with 20 points. Also scoring for the Spartans were Josh Eden with 9 points off of three 3-pointers, Vic Rosen with 6 points, Dave Justice with 5 points and Dempsey Jeffs and Kyler Edgehouse with 3 points each.
Emery then hosted Wasatch and got their seventh victory of the season as they won 73-67. Emery had a 12-point lead at the half and as much as a 15 point lead in the second half before Wasatch made it interesting in the close loss. Wasatch won the third period 20-19 and the final period 18-13. Wasatch was effective from 3-point land as they hit 11 of them to keep themselves in the game, as they had no answer for Emery’s inside game.
Winn was again the leading scorer for the Spartans, this time with 29 points. Three other Spartans finished the game in double figures. Justice had 13 points and Rosen and Eden each had 11 points. Jeffs finished with 7 points and Edgehouse had 2 points.
Emery is on the road twice this week as they conclude preseason Tuesday night in Springville and then open region play in Mt Pleasant against the Hawks of North Sanpete.
