Editor,
I was very excited to see the article on Nov. 29 about little Tyler Brown, born premature. What a miracle he is. I know from first-hand experience that having an early baby is scary and stressful. My son Wesley was born in Phoenix, 16 weeks premature, weighing 1 lb., 5.6 ounces, and was 12 inches long. Unlike Tyler, my son was given a 30 percent chance of survival when he was born. Like Tyler, my son had a brain bleed which required two surgeries. Before he was able to leave the hospital, he had four surgeries total. He did come home on a nasal feeding tube, oxygen, and a heart monitor, but that didn’t last very long.
I would like to offer some encouragement to the Labrum family and to the Brown family. My son will be 3 years old in March, and he is as healthy as can be. He wears glasses, and has some delays in development, but he is doing just about everything any 2 1/2 year old should be doing. His doctors and nurses have been absolutely amazed at his growth and progress since he came home. He spent 4 1/2 months in the hospital, and we did exceed the $1 million hospital bills, but it was worth it. It’s Christmas time, and in the article it said Tyler should be home around now. I would like to wish the Brown family the best of luck with their little miracle. I know what a rough time it can be to have a little baby in the NICU. Good luck with your little man.
