Kay McIff, former presiding judge of the Sixth District Court headquartered in Richfield, announced Monday that he will seek the legislative post being vacated by Brad Johnson of Aurora. “We owe Brad an enormous thanks for his 16 years of devoted service to Southcentral Utah,” said McIff. “I hope my background and experience will allow us to move forward without losing any momentum.”
McIff has an extensive background in the law and in public service. Before serving 11 years as a district court judge in Southern Utah, he served multiple terms as Sevier County Attorney and Piute County Attorney. His law practice also brought him into Castle Valley where he represented Emery County Special Service District #1.
“I will be a strong advocate for (1) multiple use of public land, (2) educational excellence, and (3) responsible growth and economic development,” said McIff, who has served as chair of the Board of Trustees at Southern Utah University and as a member of the State Board of Regents.
The House of Representatives District 70 consists of Emery, the south end of Sanpete, and all but a small corner of Sevier counties.
