Letter to the Editor: Liberal Democrats and perceptions about the war

By PATRICK SUNDSTROM Emery

Dear Editor,
Since the war in Iraq and Afghanistan began, we have heard the same line from the liberal Democrat elite. “We support the troops, not the mission.” Well, thanks to Richard Belzer, who plays a detective on NBC’s Law and Order SVU television show, their cover has been officially blown. Belzer, while appearing on Bill Maer’s HBO talk show, referred to our military people as a bunch of dumb 19-20 year old kids who are brainwashed and have no idea what’s really going on in Iraq. He feels that if you don’t read Democratic party propaganda papers like the New York Times or watch CNN, another public relations wing of the Democratic party, you have no idea what’s happening in the world.
As a former member of the United States Air Force and a member of the American Legion, I was quite insulted by his comments. For a liberal idiot like this man to think that does not surprise me in the least. I will give him credit for being one the few liberal Democrats who has the guts to say what they all really feel. He does not have to be elected to public office.
I encourage more Democrats to be like Mr. Belzer, tell us how you really feel and what you really believe. It will make the choice for the people that much easier come November.
