Dugmore sworn in as clerk/auditor

Commissioner Ira Hatch swears in new clerk/auditor, Brenda Dugmore.

The Emery County Commission held a special commission meeting on April 10. At this meeting they approved a leave of absence for Brenda Dugmore from her current senior deputy clerk/auditor position.
“We have been embroiled in a situation relative to the resignation of Bruce Funk as the clerk/auditor. We have researched the process to fill the position left open with his resignation. We accepted his resignation in a public meeting. We have an election to put on and we are behind the curve on training and we need to get the election judges trained. We have a primary less than 90 days away and need to get this covered so it (election) can transpire.
“We have been in contact with the state attorney general’s office and as far as we can determine this is the way to go to fill on an interim basis the balance of the term of the resigned individual. We have a letter from senior deputy Brenda Dugmore requesting a temporary leave of absence to accept the interim appointment. The central committee of the party of the person resigning has within 30 days to nominate three individuals to fill the position and they have done that. The county commission makes the appointment,” said Commissioner Hatch.
Commissioner Drew Sitterud made the motion to accept Dugmore’s leave of absence effective April 10-Dec. 29 of this year and to appoint her as the interim clerk/auditor for Emery County. The action was approved.
County personnel policy states a person may request a leave of absence in writing for periods up to one year. The reasons for a leave of absence could include education, sickness, or to take an office in the service of the county. These requests must be approved by the county commission and filed with the personnel director of the county.
Commissioner Hatch swore in Dugmore to fill the interim period as the clerk/auditor.
In other business Mary Huntington, personnel director requested permission to begin advertising for a lube mechanic for the road department. Commissioner Sitterud also requested the hiring of a 90 day temporary worker to help gather information on roads for the public lands department. The commission approved the requests.
They also approved the purchasing of three new vehicles for the sheriff’s office. They also approved the purchase of three 42 inch video computer display screens for the 911 system. These screens are being purchased with grant money.
Commissioner Hatch said the clerk/auditor’s office is down one employee, there are options available but no determinations have been made at this time. One employee in that office is part-time and possibly she could work more as needed.
