Emery FFA traveled to Cedar City and competed in the Utah State FFA Convention. Many students participated and received several recognitions.
Kaitlin Reaves went for two different areas. Kaitlin competed in extemporaneous speaking with the topic on “concerns over selling products out of the United States and taking care of our local producers.” Before traveling down to Cedar, Kaitlin competed and won a spot on the nominating committee which selects the new state officers at state convention. Kaitlin was one of only 11 selected to be on this committee.
Jacie Fasselin traveled down to Cedar to compete in the prepared public speaking event with a speech entitled “To Be A Pig or Not To Be A Pig” on the production of ethanol from corn.
Dal Guymon won third place in the Agri-Science Fair Botany Award category. Colton Grange and Keven Jensen represented the chapter as delegates to decide important issues concerning Utah State FFA Constitution and By-laws. Members Morgan Clark, John Tucker, and Bo Bloomer represented the chapter in the courtesy corps by assisting the state officers conduct official workshops and judge the state creed contest.
Ashley Sitterud, Klint Eastman, Colton Fillmore and Kendra Peacock received their state FFA degrees, this degree is the highest awarded degree that the Utah Association can award.
Amber Brasher received her American FFA Degree nomination, she has passed through the state sifting committee and will be receiving her American FFA Degree this October. Other awards received were superior chapter for meeting the minimum qualifications of having an completed membership roster and an up to date program of activities, the highlight for the whole chapter was receiving the first lace Outstanding Food For America Program and the chapter receiving a $100 check for their efforts.
A goal of the officer team was reached when Emery was one of only six FFA Chapters to receive the Five Star FFA Chapter Award. In order to receive this award a chapter must have an American degree recipient, a state degree recipient, someone competing in the state convention who has advanced from the area competition, a Food For America Program, and chapter records who have been judged accurate and complete. This award was also accompanied by a $100 check and special commendation due to the fact that only six chapters out of 60 received this award.
As a special extra the entire delegation was able to hear Jacie Fasselin, Kaitlin Reaves, and Tawny Condor perform two songs during the State FFA Degree luncheon.
