Men and Women’s Softball

Know Before You Go

Desert Edge Yard Sale
Desert Edge Christian Chapel will hold a yard sale on May 5 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and May 6 from 9 a.m-4 p.m. Donations for the yard sale will be taken at Desert Edge, 500 South Main Street, Huntington, anytime during the day. If no one is there, leave your donation at the back door.

Summer Biotech Academy

ACT Testing

Food Handler’s Class
Food handler’s classes will be held in Price on May 16 and June 14 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Southeastern Utah District Health Department. Classes will also be taught in Castle Dale at the health department on May 18 and June 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. A class will be taught in Green River at city hall on May 10 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. There is a charge and the class is two hours long. Miss Castle Dale
The Miss Castle Dale Pageant will be held June 2 at the Emery High Auditorium at 7 p.m. Applications are now being taken from ages 5-21. Queens and runner-ups will receive cash prizes. Joe’s Valley Water Releases
Because of high anticipated runoff, the Emery Water Conservancy District will begin water releases from Joe’s Valley. Releases will be as much as 300 CFS. Be advised that river flows will be abnormally high and ice on the reservoir will be extremely unstable.

The Palmers from Salt Lake just completed a blanket drive for the survivors of the recent earthquake in Pakistan. Thousands are suffering from a severe winter, living in tents and damaged structures. Dinosaur Paleontology Camp
A Dinosaur Paleontology Camp will be held on June 19-23 at the CEU Bone Preparation Lab and Price River Quarry Site. The workshop is designed for incoming 10 through 12 grade high school students. Students have to have a 3.0 grade point average or a letter of recommendation from a science instructor. The cost is $200. Sign-ups will be held at the town halls in Ferron, Orangeville, Castle Dale, and Huntington.

Miss Emery Seeks Contestants
The Miss Emery Pageant will be held on July 15 at 7 p.m. The pageant committee is seeking those girls who would like to participate in the pageant.

Tip Line for Drug Violations
A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
