Emery High player hits for Emery at the game against Manti.

The Emery High Spartans won three more ball games last week and now are tied with Juan Diego for the region lead with 6-2 records. Delta and Carbon are a game back with 5-3 records as the region enters the last week of play. Coach Jimmy Jones talked about the close race, “We have two games left that will determine our finish, we could end up anywhere from first to fourth. Juan Diego, Delta and us each control our own destiny and those are the two teams we play this week.”
Emery started the week with a 10-0 win over Granite in Salt Lake City. Josh Eden pitched a complete game allowing no runs and five hits. Josh struck out nine batters and walked only two.
Emery scored five runs in the first inning as Kesler Tanner walked to lead off, Ryne Jones tripled, Trevor Thompson was hit by a pitch, David Justice singled, Ryan draper tripled and Kyler Edgehouse singled.
Emery scored three more runs in the second inning as Ryne Jones singled, Blake Mortensen singled, Justice singled again and Draper picked up two RBI’s on a hit that was fumbled by the defense.
Thompson scored in the fourth inning after a single and an RBI hit by Justice. The last run came in the fifth inning as Kade Jones scored on a single by brother Ryne.
Emery defeated Manti in a non-region contest on Thursday by a score of 7-6. Trevor Komar opened on the mound and allowed the six runs through four innings. Jordan Gee pitched the last two innings in picking up the win.
Emery scored four times in the first inning. Ryne singled, Eden doubled, Thompson singled Justice singled and Mortensen singled. Draper with a home run. Steven Giles scored in the second inning and Mortensen and Ron Herrera scored in the seventh inning to give Emery the one run victory.
Emery then did something they had not done in five or six years, they handed Carbon a loss and they did it in Price. Emery easily won the game 10-3 as Edgehouse picked up the win. Edgehouse had eight strikeouts in the game and gave up three walks. Carbon had eight hits in the game but only had more than one hit in only the first inning when they scored two runs.
Emery scored one run in the first inning as Draper singled and scored on a single by Justice. Mortensen also singled to get Draper to third base.
Emery scored six runs in the second inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate. Ryne Jones walked, Landon Thomas walked, Kade Jones singled, Thompson doubled, Eden walked, Mortensen doubled and Justice doubled. All but Justice scored.
Emery scored their last three runs in the fifth inning. Mortensen got hit by a pitch, Justice singled, Ryne singled and Thomas singled. Edgehouse got aboard due to a Carbon error to score the last run.
Emery is hitting the ball really well, probably the best hitting team in years at Emery. As a team, Emery is batting .296 and is averaging just over seven runs per game. Leading the hitting is Ryne Jones with a .481 average. Right behind are Mortensen with a .375 average, Thompson with a .373 average and Justice with a .367 average. Draper is also hitting over .300, which seems to be the benchmark of a really good hitter, with a .326 average.
Kade Jones and Landon Thomas are each batting .286 and Eden is batting .275.
Kyler Edgehouse is the ace of the staff. Kyler has a 5-1 record and has an ERA of 2.42. Eden is right behind with a 3-3 record and a 3.94 ERA.
