Emery High baseball player bats against Delta.

After reeling off four straight wins and sharing the region lead with Juan Diego, the Emery Spartan run production fell off last week in two region losses as the Spartans finished the season tied for third in Region 8 with Carbon. Emery started the week with a 3-1 loss to Juan Diego in Salt Lake City on Tuesday and then lost to Delta at home on Thursday 7-0.
Delta and Juan Diego finished region play with identical 8-2 records while Emery and Carbon finished with 6-4 records. Emery had an overall record of 10-9. With a coin flip deciding their fate, Carbon finished third and Emery finished fourth. The Spartans will now travel to Region 10 winner Wasatch for the first round of State playoffs. This will be this Saturday. There will be two games for each team participating.
Against Juan Diego, this low scoring game featured good defense and good pitching. On the mound for Emery was Josh Eden. Eden allowed two hits in the first inning after getting the first two batters out. Eden then got the last batter to fly out to centerfield. Juan Diego had one base runner in the second inning and none in the third.
In the fifth inning, the first two Soaring Eagle batters singled and later scored on a base hit to right field. Emery gave up one more run in the seventh inning.
Emery’s offense in this game consisted of six hits including three doubles. Kyler Edgehouse, Landon Thomas and Josh Eden all doubled in the game but only Thomas was able to score. Eden got the RBI with his double, the score coming in the last inning. Eden, Trevor Thompson and Blake Mortensen had the other hits.
Emery had opportunities in the third inning and the fifth inning to put some runs on the board as they had two runners on base but the following hitters were unable to bring them home.
Emery’s offensive woes continued against hard-hitting Delta. Emery had five hits in the game, all singles. Kyler Edgehouse, Dave Justice, Kade Jones, Thomas and Eden each had a hit. Emery had two base runners on in the second inning, the fifth inning, the sixth inning and the seventh inning but were unable to score a run.
Delta scored once in the first inning as the lead off batter hit a homerun, twice more in the third inning on two hits, a walk and an Emery error, and four more times in the fifth inning.
Emery will now face Uintah this Tuesday in Castle Dale for a practice game before heading to Heber City for two games on Saturday.
