At its regular May town council meeting, the Emery Town council discussed numerous issues of interest to the residents of Emery. The recreation center project is underway. The footers are going in and the cement work is scheduled to begin next week. Mayor Michael Williams expressed his relief to be moving ahead with the center. “We have had some disagreements with the building inspector, and those are now behind us and we are moving ahead with this project,” said Mayor Williams.
Glenys Sitterud, coordinator of the ATV training park project, reported she has visited the site and tentative plans are secured. She has spoken to Jim Fauver of Castle Valley Outdoors, and he assured her that he has suitable material in the way of sand and gravel, that can be used for the track. “This is an all volunteer effort and we are still several months away,” said Sitterud. “There will be rules posted and the track will be used for training purposes.”
Councilman Patrick Sundstrom gave the fire department report. “The new pagers are coming, along with the new jackets. There is also a possibility that we will be receiving a new fire truck from the county,” said Sundstrom. He requested the fireworks budget for the July 24 celebration. The council approved $2,200, the same amount as last year. He then announced that summer fire school is coming soon.
Councilman Eric Anderson stated that the special service district has assured him the work will be started on the bypass soon, for the water storage tank. This bypass is needed to divert water into the town’s system while cleaning work is completed on the tank.
Councilperson Corinne Dalton said the planning and zoning commission has approved two building projects for Emery residents. Both are storage type buildings. She also stated that Marie Anderson was installed as secretary for the commission. They are working on a recreational vehicle ordinance, and have completed the formal complaint form to be used in the future. At the present time, the planning and zoning commission is seeking resolution of three complaints dealing with the placement of a structure and numbers of animals on private properties.
Mayor Williams requested permission to install signs on 200 West in an attempt to eliminate coal truck traffic on that street. He stated that many of the coal trucks are using 200 West as a short cut to the mine, and it is causing a problem. The council approved the installation of the signs. He was also instructed to pursue a meeting with representatives from the trucking companies to discuss the problems that are arising.
Suzi Praast suggested restarting the beautification committee in town, and she asked for volunteers.
The next Emery Town Council meeting will be held June 13 at 6 p.m. in town hall.
