The Helper player slides into home, but the umpire says, “You’re out,” to end Helper’s hopes against Judge.

The American Legion Helper team season is still in full swing. On June 28 they played Granger At home. Brady Wilde pitched and was credited with the win. Coach Jeff Cisneros said, “Brady pitched very well. Jordan Moynier pitched the last two innings, and struggled a bit. But, overall we played fine and we got the win 8 to 5. Joe Via had a two run homerun in the third inning and Blake Mortensen had a three run homer in the fifth inning.
“On July 5 we played Woods Cross at home. We Lost 14-5. Offensively Via had two homeruns and four RBI’s. No one else had more than one hit. This was a very disappointing loss. We really need to win all home league games as well as road games, but home games are very important.
“On July 7, we traveled to Salt Lake for a double header. The first game was against Murray, a team we just beat two weeks ago. We ended up losing 4-2. We made two errors and we could not get a hit when we needed one. This was a game we gave away. Kyler Edgehouse pitched a great game. The only mistake was a throwing error in the sixth inning on a bunt which allowed Murray to score two runs. Via had a two run homerun for all of our offensive output.
The second game was against Olympus. We won this game 7-5. We played better and hit the ball much better. We did have an error in the fourth inning that allowed Olympus to score four runs on a grand slam homerun. We had two outs, when we dropped a fly ball in the outfield that would have been the third out. The next batter up then hit a grand slam to tie the game at five. Chris Hatch then homered in the fifth inning and Joe Via homered in the sixth inning to preserve the win. Aaron Sandovol started on the mound and pitched very well. He allowed one run and two hits
In three innings pitched. Adam Martinez got his first work of the year the next two innings. His arm is still rehabilitating from an injury he received in the high school season. He pitched very well for his first outing. Brett Johnson came in and really shut Olympus down after they had tied the game. He did not allow a run and came up with the win. Trevor Thompson also had a three run homerun in the first inning.
“We were supposed to play Judge on Saturday at their place at noon. When we arrived at their park the sprinklers had been on all night and the field was flooded. We have rescheduled the game for this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Kearns High School Field. We will then play Kearns after at 8 p.m.” said Cisneros.
Remaining games include: July 10-Tooele at home at 6 p.m.
Wed-July 12 at home at 8 p.m. against Cyprus. Friday at Kearns against Judge at 5:30 p.m., then against Kearns at 8 p.m.
Monday-July 17 at Highland at 6 p.m. Wed. July 19-home at 8 p.m. against Kearns
Thursday-July 19 at home at 6 p.m. against Taylorsville. The state tournament will start July 29 and run through Aug. 5.
