Local communities receive CDBG monies for projects
The Community Development Block Grant, a program of the Utah Division of Housing and Community Development, has received $6,511,627 for FY 2006, down from $7,203,376 received in 2005, which was down from $7,526,622 in 2004. The federally allocated CDBG funds are administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and vary year to year as the result of legislative appropriations. “The purpose of the CDBG Program is to assist in developing viable communities by providing affordable housing, suitable public services, and economic development opportunities,” states Gordon Walker, Director of Housing and Community Development. “More than 95 percent of CDBG funds are spent on projects that benefit low to moderate income families and individuals.”
Sixty-three projects have been awarded grants for FY 2006. Bear River received five project grants, Five County region received five, Mountainland received 11, Six County received 11, Southeast received nine, Uintah received five, and the Wasatch Front received 21.
Projects receiving grants include;
Carbon County, Spouse Abuse Shelter – $50,000
Ferron City, park pavilion cover – $15,920
Emery Town, community center equipment – $14,425
Cleveland Town, fire fighter equipment – $67,038
Moab City, park lighting – $66,000
Blanding City, park improvements – $77,500
Blanding City, Main Street improvements – $64,700
Clawson Town, park pavilion improvements $13,000
Monticello – $108,592
