Master Clubs


Kids, ages 6-12, you are welcome to Master Club at the First Baptist Church in Ferron. It will be held every Wednesday night, beginning Sept. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. At Master Club, you will enjoy games, songs, Bible lessons, crafts, and skills learning.

National Hoops 3 on 3 Tournament


Compete for your spot at the All-Star game in Las Vegas in 2007, at the First Baptist Church, 65 West Mill Road, Ferron on Sept. 9. All 13-19 may enter in varsity or junior varsity for the 3 on 3 double elimination tournament. Register online at www.nationalhoops.com, by phone at 435-384-3321, or by mail to the church at P.O. Parade Your Pet


Ferron City youth council will host Parade your Pet on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. for the youth ages 2-12. Bring your pet to Mayors Park. Entry form can be picked up at city hall or Ferron Elementary. For more information contact Pauline at 384-3133.

Peach Dessert Contest


Ferron City will host a peach dessert contest on Sept. 7. Anyone who is interested in entering a dessert needs to bring it to Mayors Park by 6 p.m. to be judged. At 7 p.m. the desserts will be served with ice cream in conjunction with the local talent show. In case of bad weather, bring your desserts to the Lower Park (fairgrounds). Ferron Talent Show


Ferron City will host a local talent show on Sept. 7 beginning at 7 p.m. at Mayor’s Park. Anyone who is interested in performing may come and participate. A sound system will be available as well as a piano. In case of bad weather, the contest will be held at the Lower Park (fairgrounds) metal building. Peach Days Parade


Ferron City is now accepting entry forms for parade participants. Ferron Peach Days parade will be held on Sept. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. For an entry form, contact city hall at 384-2350 or visit the website at www.ferroncity.org for a parade entry form.

Camp Dale DUP


Camp Dale DUP will hold its opening social on Sept 11 at 1 p.m. at the senior center. Lunch will be served and everyone is welcome.

Spartan Flags


The Emery High Spartan Booster club is selling flags as a fund raiser and to show support of the student athletes. The flags may be hung up whenever there is a home game. Flags and poles range from $10-$25. Also, they are selling advertising space around the field. For more information contact Cindy Draper at 748-2235.

Melon Days


Melon Days in Green River will be held Sept. 15-16. There will be vendors, golf tournament, high school baseball, softball, queen pageant, square dancers, breakfast, parade, entertainment, dance and fireworks. There will also be a re-enactment of Manly’s landing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Melon Days. On Saturday, there will be free, all you can eat melon in the park.

Huntington DUP


Huntington DUP will hold its opening social Sept. 7, with brunch being served at 11:30 a.m. in the senior center. Meeting will follow brunch.

Emery School District Screenings


Emery School District conducts annual speech and hearing screening to identify students who might need further evaluation of their speech or hearing. Students who fail the initial hearing screening will be given a re-test in three to four weeks. Screening is scheduled with the schools involved and takes place anytime during the school year. District Speech-Language Pathologists administer the tests. All district preschool, kindergarten, first grade, new students and any referrals will be screened for hearing. Pre-kindergarten students will be screened during kindergarten registration and third grade students will be screened for speech only. You must tell your school’s secretary if you do not want your child to receive speech or hearing screening tests.

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on Sept. 28 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Tri-Stake Fireside


There will be a tri-stake fireside on Sept. 24 featuring “Jenny Phillips.” The fireside theme is “Journey towards Zions.” The fireside will begin at 6 p.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center.

Castle Valley Youth Leadership Summit


The Castle Valley Youth Leadership Summit will be held on Sept. 23 at the Emery High School. Pre-register by Set. 8 to receive a T-shirts or hoody. The keynote speaker will be Commander Scott Waddle and the band will be LokalGrown. A new computer will be given away at the end of the summit. Defensive Driving Class


The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four hour defensive driving course on Sept. 16 at the Castleview Hospital Classroom, 300 North Hospital Drive, from, 8 a.m.-12 noon. Registration is $40 per person, or $10 for those age 55 and over that are only seeking a reduction in their insurance rate. Ladies ATV Ride


On Sept. 6, during the Arapeen ATV Jamboree, a ladies ATV ride will be held. Lunch will be catered on Horn Mountain. The ride will be up Black Dragon and will begin at 8 a.m. at the Multipurpose building at the Ferron fairgrounds. For more information contact Mark H Williams at 381-2493.

Fund Raising Celebration


Hosted by Emery County Care and Rehab. There will be a Savage 7-mm rifle with scope, fish finder, fishing pole, cooler, Coleman camp stove, two queen size quilts and many others. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. It will be held during the Peach Day’s celebration on Sept. 9.

Encina High School Reunion

Larraine Pierce Benefit


A kidney transplant and dialysis treatment benefit for Larraine Pierce will be held on Sept. 23 at the Huntington city park. There be a car wash before dinner, a bake sale from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Dinner cost will be $5/adults, $3/children under 12. Museum Donations


The Museum of the San Rafael is seeking funds to design, build and install full-size, life like sculptures of three dinosaurs and a mammoth. The cost is $149,000. Donations can be made to Museum of the San Rafael, P.O. Box 1088, Castle Dale.

ATV Rodeo

Relay Utah Now Offers Amplified Cordless Phone For Hard of Hearing


For Utahns living with hearing loss and limited mobility, an amplified cordless phone is now available through Relay Utah, a division of the State of Utah Public Service Commission to help meet the needs of the hard of hearing who also experience mobility limitations with wheelchair, walker or oxygen use. The amplified cordless phones are available, at no charge, to hard of hearing individuals in Utah who currently participate in the Supplemental Security Income program, Medicaid and other Department of Human Service or Public Assistance programs. Senior Beginners Line Dancing

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Quilts of Valor, a program that provides quilts to each injured serviceman or woman, is being organized in Emery County. This program needs funds and interested people to help with making the quilts. Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
