Curtis Marchello
PRICE-Our kind, caring, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John Curtis Marchello, passed away peacefully Sept. 2. 2006.
He was born July 18, 1927 to Bernard and Ruby Jones Marchello in Martin, Utah. He married Olena Curtis July 17, 1949.
Curtis will always be remembered by his great sense of humor and kindness to all those he came in contact with, and for his many years of delivering milk to local stores and schools. He was a member of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Posse.
His passion was farming and raising cattle. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who will always love and cherish the many memories they have been blessed with.
Survived by his wife, Olena; children Diane (James) Dart, Barney (Cindy) Marchello, Susan (Kyle) Davis, all of Price; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three more to soon join the family. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edith Gibson, Edna Berry; brother Kenneth Marchello; and brother-in-law, Lee Gibson.
Graveside service was held Sept. 7, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Price City Cemetery. Family and friends were welcomed at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price on Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Nadean Reynolds
EAST CARBON-Nadean Holtz Reynolds, age 75, passed away Sept. 4, 2006 in Price. She was born June 11, 1931 in Davenport, Neb. to Charles and Carolina Doring Holtz.
Nadean enjoyed women’s clubs as well as crocheting and golfing. She loved to spend time with family and her birds and dogs. Nadean also enjoyed working in her yard and gardening with her lifetime companion, her dachshund, Peggy Sue. She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by her three daughter, Lynda (Randy) Wayman, Carol (Donnie) Logston, both of East Carbon; Tammy (Ronald) Valdez, Springville; favorite son/grandson, James (Yvette) Wayman, East Carbon; sister, Nona Santangelo, brother, Frank (Jenny) Holtz, both of Denver, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Eloise Holtz, Arvatta, Colo., Mary Holtz, Golden, Colo.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; and her lifetime companion Peggy Sue. Preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Randy Shawn Wayman; three brothers; and sister-in-law, Donna Holtz.
Funeral mass was held Sat. Sept. 9, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Family was at the church Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Seeley Elwin Ralphs
1930-2006
The family wishes to take this opportunity to celebrate the life of Seeley Elwin Ralphs, and honor the memory of him as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Born Aug. 23, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Elwin and Etta Seely Ralphs, Seeley grew up on a farm in Clawson, Emery County, Utah. He loved the sheep and horses he tended, and learned patience and caring for all of God’s creatures. This compassion for others carried through in all his endeavors.
After graduating from South Emery High School and attending Carbon College, he enlisted in the United States Army. After his time in active duty, he was assigned to the Army Reserves, and in 1954 he was commissioned a second Lieutenant. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in August, 1990. He loved his country and it gave him great joy to serve. He was a master aviator in both fixed wing and helicopters, and he was a master marksman.
In addition to his military service, Seeley served as a California Highway Patrolman from 1957 to 1965. He worked in Compton and Watts, Southern Calif., then transferred to Sacramento in 1958. He was the first “eyes in the sky” police traffic reporter for KCRA, providing live radio traffic reports from the air.
Injury from a Highway Patrol motorcycle accident resulted in his retirement from the CHP. He then worked as an aeronautical engineer for the Department of the U.S. Air Force at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, Calif. He retired in 1990 after 25 years of service.
While stationed at Fort Mac-Arthur in San Pedro, Calif., he met and fell in love with F. Vivian Ball. They were married for time and all eternity on Nov.18, 1950 in the St. George Temple, St. George, Utah. They have three children: Joyce Lynn Wahlquist, Diane Marie Coffman, and Mark Alan Ralphs.
He fought a courageous battle against Stage IV Melanoma cancer for more than 10 years, ending on Sept. 9, 2006. He never complained, lost his sense of humor, or questioned, “Why me, Lord?” He had a great love of music and sang at every opportunity until cancer took his voice in 2002. During this time of personal trial he served as a chaplain for the Amador County California Sheriff’s Department. He felt his life had been so blessed, he wanted to give back in community service. He counseled and consoled others in their times of grief. His LDS church service included serving in two bishoprics, on the stake high council, on four stake missions, and as a temple worker for 11 years in the Oakland Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian, and their children: Joyce (John) Wahlquist, Woodbridge, Va.; Diane (Gordon) Coffman, Provo, Utah; and Mark (Peggy) Ralphs, Diamond Springs, Calif.; nine grandchildren: Ellen (Jon) Durrough, Mercer Island, Wash.; Grant (Katie) Wahlquist, Okinawa, Japan; Laura (Chris) Jones, Springville, Utah; Rachel Wahlquist, Burke, Va.; Andrew (Ellisa) Wahlquist, Bellevue, Wash.; Jason Ralphs, BYU-Idaho; Katie, Kevin, and Rebecca Ralphs, Diamond Springs, Calif.; and seven great-grandchildren: Sarah Dorrough, Alex and Max Wahlquist, Tyler and Haley Jones, and Brent and Anna Wahlquist.
A funeral service will be held on Fri., Sept. 15, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Provo, Utah Stake Center located at 1315 East 900 South, Provo, Utah. Interment will take place in the Ferron City Cemetery, Emery County, Utah.

Zoe Westwood Davis
PRICE-Zoe Westwood Davis, 92, passed away on Sept. 3, 2006 from old age. She was born Oct. 26, 1913 to Mary Elizabeth Crow and John Richard Westwood in Circleville, Piute County, Utah. She graduated from Piute High School in 1932. She married Richard “Sheik” Davis on Jan. 24, 1938. They made their home in Kenilworth, Carbon County, Utah and there they raised their family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Kenneth John, Ray Jones, and George Jay, her sisters, Erma, Cora Matilda Howes, Zelda Mae Norton, her husband Richard, oldest son Richard Merrell, and grandchildren, Richard “Rick” Merrell Davis and Rachel Lorraine Davis.
She is survived by her youngest brother, Richard “Dick” Westwood of Circleville; her children, Robert J. Davis, of Price; Lorraine (Gary) Callaway of Cedar City; and Mervin K. (Carolyn) Davis of Vacaville, Calif. She also has 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Zoe was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent many hours doing handiwork. Most of the members of her family are honored to own a “Grandma Zoe Quilt.”
Services were held Fri. Sept. 8, 2006 at Fausett Mortuary in Price with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial in the Price City Cemetery.
Wanda T. Summers Larsen
Wanda T. Summers Larsen our sweet, sweet Mom peacefully passed away surrounded by her family, Aug. 31, 2006.
Mom was born Feb. 28, 1921 in Fairview, Wyo. to Charles Clifford Thornton and Inez Jerusha Campbell. She married Allen Summers of San Francisco, Calif. in June 1940 and sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. After our dad’s death, mom married Carlos Larsen. She was so happy to have more children and grandchildren added to her life.
The love of Mom’s life was her family, especially the little ones with their happy smiles.
Mom’s life exemplified patience, understanding, unconditional love, and generosity. There was never a doubt about where one stood with her, as she would always tell you what was on her mind. She was an excellent example of spirituality and unfailing spiritual strength, demonstrated by her testimony of the Lord and her service to others. Mom was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served missions in Florida, Texas, the Manti Temple, and numerous other callings.
She’s survived by her daughter, Terry Lyn Williams (Mark H) of Castle Dale, sons, Richard Summers (Jeannie) of Las Vegas, Nev., Art Summers (Luella) of Nephi, Charles Summers of Castle Dale, David Summers (Jackie) of Henderson, Nev.; and stepchildren, Franz (Patty) Larsen, Kimble (Anne) Larsen, and Russell (Kathy) Larsen. She is also survived by her sisters, Ila Young, Afton, Wyo.; Byrel Dabel, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Betty Dabel, Delta, Utah. Her legacy includes many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Parts of her wise counsel to her family throughout our lives were “Don’t do anything stupid” and “Keep on keeping on”.
A grave side service was held Sept. 4, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. in Fairview, Wyo.

A. Grant Guymon
1914-2006
Albert Grant Guymon passed away peacefully in Orem, Utah, on Sept. 1, 2006. He was born in Huntington, Utah, Oct. 29, 1914, to Edward Montell and Minerva Mackelprang Guymon.
He spent his early years on the farm and the range. Graduated from Huntington High School in 1932, served the LDS Church in the Spanish American Mission, 1937-39, attended Utah State Agricultural College, 1940-1942, served his country in the United States Army, 1942-1947, attaining the rank of captain.
He married Elizabeth Lee Breece, Aug. 14, 1943, and they were the parents of four sons and one daughter. They were later divorced. Married Estella U. Geary, Dec. 10, 1963. She survives him. Grant worked in purchasing for most of his career, and retired from the U. S. Forest Service in 1980.
Always active and devoted to his faith, he served in numerous callings in the LDS Church, including a mission to the Manti Temple with his wife, 1981-1986. He enjoyed travel and visited most regions of the United States and many other countries. He joined the Huntington Glee Club in 1932 and derived a great deal of satisfaction from music throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Estella, of Orem; three sons and one daughter, Lee Grant and Marie of Roy, Robert Scott and Anne of Midvale, Steven Dwight and Claudia of Tucson, Ariz., and Valinda and Jeff Frohschauer of Carson City, Nev.; step-children Edward and Janet Geary of Huntington, Sue Geary of Salt Lake City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who fondly remember rides on Grandpa’s tractor. Also survived by brother and sisters S. Hal Guymon of Huntington, Orilla Ungerman of Bountiful, and Maurine Nielson of Provo. Predeceased by his parents, son Kevin Wayne, five brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services Wed., Sept. 6, in the Huntington LDS Stake Center. Friends called at the church one hour before the services.
Hedy Mathie
HUNTINGTON-Henrietta “Hedy” Mathie, age 86, continued her journey to our Father on Sept. 7, 2006.
She was born March 2, 1920, in Shelton, Iowa to John and Altje “Allie” Priem VanCorler.
Married Gerald H. Mathie Sr. Oct. 16, 1943, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 26, 1961. Gerald passed away on March 3, 2000.
“Hedy” was a homemaker and she managed all the finances for the family farm. She was a lovely woman with a soft and giving heart, who adored her family. She will be greatly missed by all the people whose lives she touched and whose hearts she strengthened.
She is survived by her brother, Ernest VanCorler, sister Ethel Jacobsen, her son, Michael Steven (Jeannie) Mathie; grandsons, Torrey (Stacy), Branden (Cassie), Derrick and Daniel; granddaughters, Natalie (Kenneth) and Sandy; great-grandsons, Gabriel, Kaisen and Alexander; great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Monica, Cassidy and McKinley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald H. Mathie Sr.; son, Gerald H. “Gary” Mathie Jr.; daughter, Deborah Kay Mathie; and brother, Edward “Dutch” VanCorler.
Funeral service, Mon., Sept. 11, 2006, 11 a.m., Huntington First LDS Ward Chapel, located at 115 South 400 East. Family was at the church Monday one hour prior to services. Friends were welcomed at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price, Sunday from 12 noon-5 p.m.

Reed Livingston
PRICE- Thomas Reed Livingston, age 84, passed away Sept. 9, 2006 in Provo. He was born Dec. 28, 1921 in Wales, Utah to Allen Reed and Mildred Lamb Livingston.
His father was killed in Bingham Canyon, Utah when he was 5 years old and his sister Leona was 1 year old. His mother later married Burl O. Hoopes of Lyman, Wyo. Reed was in the Army Air Corps from Aug. 28, 1940 until Sept. 28, 1945. He was stationed first at March Field, Calif., then transferred to Scott Field, Illinois where he received training as a radio operator and mechanic. He later returned to March Field until after war was declared. His next base was Gowan Field in Boise, Idaho. He was there for 11 months before shipping out to Brazil, where he stayed until the end of hostilities. The squadron was initially the first Communications Squadron, later changed to the Army Airways Communications System. He was recalled for the Korean War when the unit was activated. He served in the 1993 AACS Squadron until he was discharged in July 1953. Reed was a member of the American Legion Post #73 Huntington and a retired member of the Operating Engineers Local #3. He held various positions in the LDS church most recently, Secretary of Price Fourth Ward High Priest Group.
Married Geraldine (Theda) Cowley March 20, 1947. They were blessed with three sons, Gerald Reed (Thelma) Livingston, Allen Lee (Gizial) Livingston and Brent J. (Nancy) Livingston; stepdaughter Diana (Neil) Scovill, all of Huntington.
On Sept. 23, 1989 Reed married Dorothy Jensen and was again blessed by new additions to his family; stepchildren, Juanita (Bill) Llewelyn; Kathyrn (Terry) Cowley; Rand (Tama) Gordon. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren and 17 step great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Theda; parents; stepfather; sisters, Leona and Mildred; grandson, Matthew Scovill; great-grandaughter, Kyla Potter.
Funeral service, Wed., Sept. 13, 2006, 11 a.m., Price Fourth LDS Ward. Famiy will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main, Price Tuesday evening from 6-7 p.m. and at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to service. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery.
