Emery County Political Candidates


The deadline is approaching for you to submit your photo and short bio for publication in the Emery County Progress on Oct. 10. The deadline for submission is Sept. 29. Bring your information to the office at 410 East Main Street in Castle Dale.

San Rafael Junior High Mid-terms


Attention parents. San Rafael Junior High will have mid-term parent-student-teacher conferences Sept. 28 from 3-9 p.m. Parents and students are welcome. Mid-term report cards will be handed out that evening.

Republican Annual Fall Dinner


The Emery County Republican Annual Fall Dinner will be held Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Critter Country Fixin’s, 330 West SR 29 in Castle Dale. The public is welcome to attend. Speakers will be Kay McIff and local candidates running for County Offices and also speaking will be a representative for LaVar Christensen who is running for Second District Congress.

Discover Goblin Valley State Park


Sept. 29, Goblin Valley State Park – Green River. Discover Goblin Valley: Join the park staff for an evening walk through the goblins beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Observation Point shelter. Junior Ranger Program at Goblin Valley


Sept. 30, Goblin Valley State Park – Green River. Junior Ranger Program: Who lives here? Learn about the wildlife that calls Goblin Valley home. Find out what it might be like to live in the desert. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Observation Point shelter. This program is geared to children 6-12, but everyone is welcome. Become a Junior Ranger and earn a Junior Ranger badge. Goblin Valley Amphitheater Grand Opening


Sept. 30, Goblin Valley State Park – Green River Amphitheater Grand Opening: Join park staff for the grand opening of the Goblin Valley amphitheater at 7:30 p.m. Follow the journey of a plant seed’s life and learn about Goblin Valley’s rocks and wildlife. Farm Safety Night


A farm safety night will be held on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Emery High School science wing. All ages welcome. Refreshments provided.

Historical Society


The Emery County Historical Society will be taking a trek to the MK tunnels as its September meeting. Meet for the guided tour at the corrals just north of Castle Dale at 1 p.m. Sept. 30. Put on your walking shoes, bring your jacket, water, lawn chair, and a pot luck dish to go with the weiner roast. There will be a guest speaker and entertainment. Everyone welcome.

Emery County Quilt Guild


The Emery County Quilt Guild will be held on the first Tuesday of every month at the Huntington Senior Citizen Center. Everyone is welcome.

Gingerbread House Festival


The Gingerbread House Festival, a new event in Emery County, will be held Dec. 1-2 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Admission is free. Everyone who wants to participate should build a gingerbread house and bring it to the festival. If house aren’t your style, try a sleigh or a gingerbread man or woman. These can be done by a group, family or individual. Each creation must be 80 percent edible, and the winners of the house division will be eligible to compete at the Utah County Gingerbread House competiton. Food Handler’s Class


Food handler’s classes will be held Sept. 28 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the health department office at 25 West Main in Castle Dale. For more information call 381-2252.

Master Clubs


Kids, ages 6-12, you are welcome to Master Club at the First Baptist Church in Ferron. It will be held every Wednesday night, beginning Sept. 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. At Master Club, you will enjoy games, songs, Bible lessons, crafts, and skills learning.

Spartan Flags


The Emery High Spartan Booster club is selling flags as a fund raiser and to show support of the student athletes. The flags may be hung up whenever there is a home game. Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on Sept. 28 and Oct. 26 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Museum Donations


The Museum of the San Rafael is seeking funds to design, build and install full-size, life like sculptures of three dinosaurs and a mammoth. The cost is $149,000. Donations can be made to Museum of the San Rafael, P.O. Box 1088, Castle Dale.

Amplified Cordless Phone For Hard of Hearing


For Utahns living with hearing loss and limited mobility, an amplified cordless phone is now available through Relay Utah, a division of the State of Utah Public Service Commission to help meet the needs of the hard of hearing who also experience mobility limitations with wheelchair, walker or oxygen use. The amplified cordless phones are available, at no charge, to hard of hearing individuals in Utah who currently participate in the Supplemental Security Income program, Medicaid and other Department of Human Service or Public Assistance programs. A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Quilts of Valor


Quilts of Valor, a program that provides quilts to each injured serviceman or woman, is being organized in Emery County. This program needs funds and interested people to help with making the quilts. Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number.
