Arla LaVonne Cox Heaton
1931 – 2006
“What would Jesus have me do?”
Arla died Sept. 24, 2006 from a month long battle with West Nile Virus; bitten by a mosquito in her beautiful garden. Born Oct. 20, 1931 in St. George, Utah to Judge LeRoy H. and Lillian O. Cox. Graduated Valedictorian from Dixie High School, attended Dixie College; married her high school sweetheart and life long best friend Glen W. Heaton Dec. 14, 1949 in the St. George temple.
Arla worked many years as a legal secretary, and as an executive assistant for Ireco Chemical and Utah Power & Light Mining. She was active in the LDS Church and served in many callings. Most recently teaching English to Spanish speaking members. She was an active, kind, loving person who touched many lives.
Arla loved to learn and was taking two Spanish classes, a computer class and Tai Chi (which she loved). She delighted in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbor children. She had time for them all and taught them all how to cook. She loved to cook – felt there could never be too much food.
Arla is survived by her loving husband Glen, sister Marilyn (Ray) Squiers, sister-in-law Donna Cox, children Janine (Peter) Leyer, Lillian (Ray) Woolston, ‘Roy’ (Tracy) Heaton; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and her dog Tag.
Arla was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Darrell and Lowell; children, Darrell, Joan and LaVonne (Marion) Frazier and granddaughter Joan Leyer.
Funeral services Fri. Sept. 29, 2006 at noon in the Murray 23rd Ward, located at 755 East Three Fountains Drive, Murray, Utah. The family received friends at a viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 South State, Murray and one hour prior to service on Friday at the ward. Internment, Sandy City cemetery.

Gloria Seal
SPRING GLEN-Gloria Christensen Seal, 73, passed away Mon. Sept. 25, 2006 at home surrounded by her loved ones. Gloria was born Dec. 12, 1932 in Price to Perry Elias and Nola O’Niel Christensen. She married Lawrence Floyd Seal Sept. 23, 1949 in Price.
Gloria had many active callings in church. She was a good visiting teacher, and she sang in the church choir. But Gloria’s true calling and love was working in the genealogy library. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will forever remain in our hearts, and will be missed by all.
Gloria is survived by her husband Floyd of Spring Glen; her daughter Marlane Tufts of Lindon; her sons, F. Carey and Nedra Seal of Ogden; L. Cory Seal of Spring Glen; Perry Seal of Orem; Jody Seal of Spring Glen; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Perry (Ginger) Christensen of Logan, her sisters, Joyce (Ken) Anderson of Washington, Carol (Bruce) Worthen of Delta, Gail Pagano of Price, and Susan (Jim) Wilstead of Price. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sat. Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Helper Stake Center. Friends and family greeted the family one hour prior to services at the church. A viewing was also held Fri. Sept. 29 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. Burial was in the Price City Cemetery.
Hannah Zupon
SUNNYSIDE/EAST CARBON-Hannah Kennick Zupon, age 88, died Sept. 26, 2006 in Salt Lake City. Born Sept. 4, 1918 in Kenilworth, Utah to Frank and Antonia Medevek Kennick. Married Amil Zupon Oct. 27, 1938 in Salt Lake City. He died Nov. 15, 1989.
Hannah was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church of East Carbon. She was a former resident of Sunnyside prior to 2003. Hannah was know for her beautiful hand stitched designer quilts. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survived by two daughters, Lorraine Murray and (special companion, Jerry Jewell), Sammamish, Wash.; Karen (Gary) Tobey, Salt Lake City; special granddaughter, Stephanie Tobey, Salt Lake City; and sister, Mrs. Helen Butters, Roy. Preceded in death by husband, Amil; brothers, Harry, Bill, Carl, Clinton, and Clifford; and a sister, Bette.
Family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Stratford in Draper, for their loving care and concern for Hannah over the last three years.
Funeral mass, Sat. Sept. 30, 2006. 11 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Carbon. Vigil service Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Family was at the church in East Carbon one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Friends were welcomed to call at Mitchell’s on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Sam Martino
PRICE-Our loving father, grandfather, brother, longtime friend, and dear neighbor, Sam S. Martino, age 90, passed away Sept. 28, 2006 at Parkdale Care Center where he was a resident for the past two and a half years.
He was born April 21, 1916 in Valdez, Colo. to John and Rose Giardino Martino. When Sam was a child the family moved to Hiawatha where he began working in the coal mines at the age of 17. He continued in the area, and on June 9, 1941 he married Mary Ann DiMaggio in Kansas City, Mo.
After a number of years in Hiawatha the family moved to Price, where he co-owned and operated the Capital Club. Sam was a dedicated and a faithful member of the United Mine Worker of America, Hiawatha Local #6363. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his yard, and his gardens were some of the best around.
“My Dad Is My Hero”
The world has many heroes who have won a world of fame,
Heroes who have given their all to win in life’s game.
But of all the famous heroes that our changing world has had,
There’s not a one I look up to or admire more than my dad.
To me, My dad’s a hero, though he’d turn away from praise,
He’s heroic in his quiet strength and his gentle, giving ways.
He may not make the headlines, you won’t see him on TV,
But I think my dad is everything a hero ought to be.
He always keeps his promises, on that I can depend,
He’s loyal to me, no matter what, and he’ll always be my friend.
So when I think of heroes and the great things that they’ve done,
I feel the way that I’ve always felt-
My dad’s the greatest one.
Survived by two daughters, one son and their spouses: Rosanne and Ronald Kulow, Price, Sarie and Dan Guy, Carbonville, Sam Jr. and Diann Martino, Price; sister, Florence Jernigan, brother, Jay Martino, both of Price; seven loving grandchildren and 12 and one half great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary, who passed away on Sept. 10, 1997; brothers, Pete, Joe, Jim; and sister, Rose Stafford.
Funeral mass was held Mon. Oct. 2, 1006 at 10 a.m. in the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Family gathered at Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday morning. Friends were welcomed at Mitchell Funeral Home on Sunday. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
