Emerson Cook
Emerson T. Cook returned home to his Heavenly Father on Oct. 22, 2006 at age 81. He was born Oct. 14, 1925 to Thomas Henry Cook and Anna Elizabeth Nielson Cook in Fountain Green, Utah. He graduated from Moroni High School and attended Utah State University for one year.
He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1943 at age 18 and served in World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B-17. After the war, he returned to Fountain Green leaving only to attend gunsmith school in Denver and Brigham Young University in Provo.
He married LuJane Christiansen of Fountain Green in the Manti Temple on July 7, 1948. They had three children, Joseph Dean, Dwight Emerson, and Gwen. They have 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Emerson was a farmer and livestockman in Fountain Green raising turkeys, sheep, and cattle for more than 50 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings including ward clerk, Seventy, Elders Quorum presidency, High Priest group leader and Manti Temple worker. He proudly served on the Fountain Green City Council, the Fountain Green Irrigation Company Board and the Fountain Green Lions Club. His greatest loves were his family, his church, his farm, hunting, fishing for salmon in Idaho, and skiing.
He is survived by his wife LuJane, his three children Joseph Dean (Ruth) Cook of Fountain Green, Dwight Emerson (Patti) Cook of Fountain Green and Gwen (Neal) Peacock of Castle Dale, 13 grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Pershing J. (Darlene) Cook of Bel Fouche, S.D. and Thomas Kayle (Barbara) Cook of St. George, Utah. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph, Joseph, and Kermit Cook and sisters Phyllis Memmott and Odessa Olsen and by his beloved grandson Thomas Joseph Cook.
Funeral services were held Thurs. Oct. 26, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Fountain Green LDS Chapel. There was a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Wed. Oct. 25 and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the Fountain Green Chapel. Interment was in the Fountain Green Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary.
Dollie Perri
SPRING GLEN- The world has lost a beautiful person, Frances (Dollie) Skriner Perri. How can a notice explain what a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother Dollie was.
Frances (Dollie) Skriner was born on March 25, 1923 on a cold, windy day in Wattis, Utah. Anton and Magdalena Blatnick Skriner welcomed their tiny daughter to their family.
Dollie fell in love with and then married Bill Perri on March 29, 1947. To this marriage was born their son Billy D. Perri. On Nov. 4, 2006, heaven welcomed the soul of Dollie Perri. Dollie was a survivor throughout her many struggles in life and she is finally at rest.
Dollie’s life revolved around her husband Bill and Billy. She was a wonderful wife and mother who, with strength and courage, persevered through many health struggles. Despite these hardships, she was the proverbial “Austrian” mother who took pride in keeping an immaculately clean, warm and inviting home in Spring Glen, Utah. Although small in stature, her heart was huge with love for family and friends.
She was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and a member of the Catholic Church. Dollie enjoyed being with her friends and she loved to polka with Bill at the Slovenian Home. She was very creative with arts and crafts and she loved to go to the jeep races with her son. She loved camping, fishing, traveling and singing around the camp fire in Austrian. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband Bill, her devoted son Billy and his wife Kerry; grandchildren Alicia (Bill) Kelley, and Jalynn Snider; she has five great-grandchildren, Cassie Martin, Andie Kelley, McKenzie Kelley, Daniel Jay (DJ) Snider, BreAnna Snider; her sisters Zelpha Vuksinick, Antonia (Milan) Corak; brother, Henry (Nadine) Skriner; sister-in-law, Violet Skriner; many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a community of friends. Dollie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Anton Skriner and her three sisters Mary, Olga and Anne LePere.
We would like to thank the nurses from Community Nursing Service, Tisa Pendergrass and Terri Fausett. They made Dollie’s quality of life manageable.

Nov. 9, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper, with a Vigil Service at 10 a.m. Friends are welcome to join the family at St. Anthony’s Thursday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Committal service Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dollie’s name.
Joel Erickson
ORANGEVILLE-Joel Hyrum Erickson, age 78, passed away Oct. 28, 2006 in Price. He was born Aug. 4, 1928 in Gunnison, Utah to Frederick and Addeline Erickson. In March of 1960, Joel married his sweetheart, LaRae Leetham in Nevada.
Joel served his country with pride in the US Marine Corps during August 1946-August 1948. For his bravery, he was honored with a World War II victory medal. When Joel wasn’t serving his county, he loved to go hunting and fishing.
Joel is survived by his wife LaRae of Orangeville; children Joel (Judy), Ray (Debbie), Fred (Helen-deceased), Becky, Karen (Seth), Brent (Debbie), Terry (Linda), Jeff (Connie), Jed (Heidi), Kenneth, Joy (James), several nieces and nephews, 42 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents Frederick and Addeline, brothers Fred, Frank and Lloyd, and sisters Emeral, Hilma, and Joy, and son Jess.
Funeral services were held Thurs. Nov. 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary located in Castle Dale, Utah. Burial took place at the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice and Castle Country Care Center for all they have done for our loving husband and father. A special thanks is also given to his daughter, Karen, for all the loving care when he was so ill. Art Passarella
SPRING GLEN-Our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur Joseph Passarella, age 82, passed away suddenly Oct. 31, 2006. Art was born under a wandering star in Clear Creek, Utah on Oct. 13, 1924 to Tony and Mary Ferraro Passarella.
He married the love of his life, June Toigo on Sept. 21, 1946 and together they shared 60 years of true love. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper.
Art was a longtime resident of Carbon County where he worked in various coal mines until his retirement in 1984. He was a retired member of the UMWA Castle Gate Local #1681.
Art enjoyed farming and reminiscing with his family and friends. Art shared his love of life with his many friends and he will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by his loving wife, June: sons, Brent and Fred Passarella, all of Spring Glen; his two beautiful sisters, Christine Hanson and Tess Milovich, both of Price; four grandchildren, Jeff (Misty) Passarella, Jennifer Passarella, Nicole Passarella and her fiance Marty Bias, and Tanner Passarella; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Trenity and T’Ann Passarella; and a very special friends Ann Allen. Preceded in death by his parents, son Rick Passarella, brothers Ralph, Ernie, Frank, and Fred, sisters Elva Pinarelli and Emma Marasco.
Funeral mass, Mon. Nov, 6, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service was held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the church in Helper. Family was at the church on Sunday and Monday prior to services. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery in Helper, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Mary Vetere
GREEN RIVER-Mary Ellen Schoenberger Vetere, age 79, passed away Nov. 4, 2006 at home while surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 11, 1927 in Durango, Colo. to Carl and Beatrice McCormick Schoenberger. She married Frank Vetere, July 24. 1948 in Helper, Utah.
Mary’s brother-in-law Jay Vetere said, “Mary was the backbone of the Vetere family, planning the reunions, funerals, and all of the important Vetere events for the past 58 years.” Jay stated he doesn’t know what they will do without her.
Mary was a devout Catholic and she could not rest until Green River had a Catholic church. She was instrumental in every aspect of St. Michael’s Mission and her tireless commitment enabled St. Michael’s to continue. She taught religious education classes to hundreds, and whenever there was a need, “Saint Mary” was there to help. In 1983, she received a Papal blessing.
Mary’s passion was for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and making sure those in need were cared for. She will never be forgotten for her willingness to help others and her memory will be with us forever.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Vetere Sr. of Green River; children, Frank Vetere Jr., Green River, Mary Alice (Marshall) Thompson, Grand Junction, Colo., John Vetere and Joanne Chandler, Green River, Greg (Tammy) Szafranski, Battle Creek, Mich.; four grandchildren, Andrea (Ryan) Lee, Danielle (Troy) Behrens, Amanda and Derek Szafranski; great-grandson Parker Lee; brothers and sisters, Albert (Billie Jean) Schoenberger, Vernal, George (Linda) Schoenberger, Candor, N.C., Anna Kontas, Taylorsville, Alice (Amedeo) Beacco, Price; in-laws, Jay Vetere (Jackie-deceased), Green River, John (Bonnie) Vetere, Green River, Ida Ryan, Valencia, Calif.; and hundreds of nieces, nephews, god-children, and a community of friends.
Funeral service, Thurs. Nov. 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Green River Bible Church. Family will be at the church two hours prior to service. Interment in the Elgin Cemetery. Under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.

Leonard “Von” Wilson
HUNTINGTON-Leonard “Von” Wilson, age 76 went to his eternal home on Oct. 31, 2006. Von was born on July 28, 1930 in Huntington, Utah to Leonard Wilson and Lela Grange Wilson. Von was the second child in a family of 10 children.
After completion of his school years, Von joined the United States Marine Corps where he faithfully served his country for four years. Von married his sweetheart, Etheleen Airhart on July 24, 1953 in Los Angeles, Calif. and moved to Huntington to make their home. Von was sealed to his beloved Ethel in the Manti LDS Temple.
Von was an honest man and worked tirelessly to provide for his family. When the coal mines were temporarily shut down, he immediately served as a manager of a truck stop in Flagstaff, Ariz.
When the mines started up again, he returned to Utah where he worked until he retired. Von was a natural born cowboy and enjoyed riding horses and working with cattle. He was a valuable asset to the Huntington Cattle Association whereby he assisted in the fall cattle roundups.
Von is survived by his wife of 53 years, Etheleen Airhart Wilson; daughters, Linda (Duane) Alphin, Diane Sers; sons, Kenneth (Tina) Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Steven (Kelly) Wilson; brothers, Grant (Nelda) Wilson, Reed (Mavis) Wilson, Bevin (Floann) Wilson, Ernest Wilson; sister Donna (Ronald) Kenner; and 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Lela Wilson, brothers Dick (Doris) Wilson, Bruce Wilson, Dale Wilson, and sister Lela Ann VanBuren.
In lieu of flowers, family would like donations to be sent to the American Lung Association.
Funeral services were held Sat. Nov. 4, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Huntington First Ward chapel. A viewing was held on Friday evening at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Burial in the Huntington City Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Ronald Dean Hansen
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZ.-Lylas Grange Kofford, age 84, passed away Nov. 4, 2006 in Apache Junction, Ariz. She was born on Jan. 22, 1922 in Huntington, to Myron and RaNae (Nielson) Grange. On July 31, 1941, Lylas married her sweetheart, Don B. Kofford in the Manti Temple.
Lylas was a wonderful seamstress and loved quilting and crafts. She enjoyed being surrounded by family members and doing genealogy work. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband. Lylas was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a faithful mission with her husband as ordinance workers in Atlanta, Ga. and Denver, Colo. LDS Temples.
Lylas is survived by her husband, Don B. Kofford of Apache Junction, Ariz; son Gary D. (Glenna) Kofford of Castle Dale, son Kay G. (Florence) Kofford of Apache Junction, Ariz; daughter Joann (Dale) Kisn of Colstrip, Mo.; and daughter Pat (David) Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brother Mar U. Grange of Huntington, Utah; brother Scott (Phyllis) Grange of Las Vegas, Nev; and sister Verna (Vern) Evertson of Orem. Preceded in death by great-grandson Mclaine Kofford, brother Pete Grange, and parents Myron and RaNae (Nielson) Grange.
Funeral Services will be held Thurs., Nov. 9, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Castle Dale Stake Center on 33 East Main in Castle Dale, and a viewing one hour prior to services. Burial will occur at the Castle Dale Cemetery. Funeral Services are under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Ed Chavez
HELPER- Edward Manuel Chavez Sr., passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2006 in Price, Utah.
He was born Feb. 12, 1926 in Salida, Colo., to Ezekiel “Zeke” Chavez and Candelaria “Vera” Vigil Chavez DeHerrera.
He was married to Aurora “Dora” Aguilar on June 12, 1954 in Spring Glen, Utah. She died Sept. 10, 1992.
Dad joined the Army March 4, 1944. He served in WWII in the 1252nd Combat Engineer, mostly in the European Theatre. He was Vice President of the American GI Form in the 1960’s. Dad worked for the Utah Railroad for 37 years as a laborer, track patrolman, and a heavy equipment operator. Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting and family reunions.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Martinez, of Helper; sons and daughters, James (Ruth) Chavez, Price; Pat (Arnie) Sosa, Helper; Gloria (Marion) Hamaker, Price; Edward (Jerry) Chavez Jr., Wellington; Tina (Juan) Serna, San Antonio, Texas; Eugene “Bob” (Julie) Baca, Houston, Texas; and John Baca, Helper; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife, parents, son, Ralph Baca, and grandson, Jason Wayde Hamaker.

Helen B. Seely
Oct. 23, 1907 – Oct. 10, 2006
Helen B. Seely, 98, died Oct. 10, 2006. She was married to Carl H. Seely in 1931. Their first home was in Castle Dale, Utah. Helen and Carl moved to Green River, Utah in 1933, where they lived for about 10 years before moving to Meeker, Colo. Funeral services were held Sat., Oct. 14.
