Festive Friday


Festive Friday events, presented by Utah State University, will continue Dec. 8 at noon in room 218 in the Old County Courthouse in Castle Dale. The program will focus on cooking with less sugar. For those interested in attending, reserve your spot by calling the Extension office at 381-2381. There will be taste testing and recipes for reduced sugar items. Come with your ideas to share. Cost is $3.

Holiday 4-H


Holiday 4-H will be held Dec. 5 at 4 p.m., room 218 in the Old Courthouse in Castle Dale. Cost is $2. We will be making tree ornaments. Classes usually last about one hour. Join us for some fun. (This is the last Holiday 4-H for this year.)

Christmas Extravaganza Fundraiser


The Christmas Extravaganza Fundraiser for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association on behalf of Joshua Kayden Gale will be held on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Emery County Recreation Center. There will be booths, food, Santa from noon- 1 p.m., live entertainment and a silent gingerbread house auction. Bookcliff Muzzleloaders


The Bookcliff muzzleloaders meat shoot will be held on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Bookcliff Muzzleloaders range in Price. Entry fee is $15 per shooter. For more information call Doc Atwood at 435-637-2923.

Fundraiser Benefit


A fundraiser benefit will be held for Kayden Gale, son of Josh and Tammy Gale, grandson of Garth and Lori Labrum, of Orangeville, who had a kidney transplant on Nov. 14. The benefit will be held Dec. 1 at Cottonwood Elementary beginning at 4 p.m. with the book and yard sale. Dinner at 5 p.m. and auction at 7 p.m. To donate, call Carol at 748-2481 or 748-2281.

Christmas Tree Cutting


Ferron/Price Ranger Districts: (435) 384-2372/(435) 637-2817. Permits go on sale Nov. 20. Permits are $5, one permit per household, one tree only. Permits can be purchased at the Price Ranger District Office, 599 West Price River Drive, Price, and the Ferron Ranger District Office, 115 West Canyon Road, Ferron. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., any species of tree may be cut, except Ponderosa Pine.

Ferron Christmas Celebration


Ferron City welcomes everyone to come and join in an evening of celebration at the Fairgrounds metal building from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 4. Ferron History Books and Afghans

Programs for High School Students


The Interamerican University studies Institute will offer two programs to Costa Rica and Pura Vida this summer. The programs are open to students between the ages of 15-17 who will have completed two years of high school Spanish by June. Scholarships are also available. Applications are due by Feb. 9, 2007. Huntington City will have Santa at the Huntington Elementary on Dec. 19. Pre-schoolers can come and see Santa from 11:30-12:30 p.m.

Baseball Camp


The Rocky Mountain School of Baseball announces its first annual Turkey Ball camp on Nov. 24-25 in Mesquite, Nev. The camp is for individuals or teams from ages 7-18, who will be divided into age groups. The collegiate and professional staff will include players, coaches, and scouts. Nightmare Canyon


Justin Harris was lost and injured in Baptist Draw in Emery County. The Search and Rescue was called out to rescue him. His story will be told on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24. The program entitled “I Shouldn’t Be Alive: Nightmare Canyon” will air on the Discovery Channel.

Habitat for Humanity


Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is accepting home applications. Appicants must complete 20 hours of work for the group, have been turned down for a conventional home loan and have a stable income. Volunteers and board members are needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, P.O.Box 724, Price, Utah 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans or obtain applications by going to their new office located at 151 South 700 East, the All Scrapped Up building or by calling 435-637-9701.

Food Handler’s Class


Food handler’s classes will be held on Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Health Department, 25 West Main in Castle Dale. Prehistory Week Poster Contest


State History announces the 2007 Utah Prehistory Week Poster Contest. The winning poster will be professionally printed and distributed nationwide to promote Utah’s exciting past, there will also be cash awards. The 2007 TRUTH from Youth Anti-tabacco advertising contest is giving fourth and fifth graders the opportunity to become a big-time producer. American Legion Fundraiser Raffle

Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. Free Legal Clinic


Every second and fourth Monday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. a free legal clinic will be held at the Price Court House. Call Utah Legal Services at 1-800-662-1563 to set up an appointment.

Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power wheelchairs to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center


Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
