First annual Scofield fishing derby

Scofield State Park, Utah’s highest elevation state park, hosts the Scofield First Annual Fishing Derby Dec. 30 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The tournament is limited to only 49 participants, and a number of great prizes will be given away, including Cabela’s gift certificates for those landing the top three largest fish.
Join the fun at the Scofield Madsen Bay parking area. Tournament check-in is 6:30-8 a.m. and free hotdogs and cocoa are served from noon-2 p.m. Fish check-in is from 3-3:15 p.m.

Fatal cars/truck accident near Ferron

An early morning accident at the Ferron dugway on SR-10 led to the death of a Carbonville man on Dec. 19.
A Nielson Construction coal truck and a vehicle collided due to slick conditions. The vehicle left the road and went down the embankment. Another vehicle came along and collided with the truck.
The accident report was taken by the Utah Highway Patrol with the Emery County Sheriff’s Office assisting with traffic control while the accident was cleaned up. Local EMTs and fire departments responded to the scene to care for the victim. No other injuries were reported.
The deceased man, Art Aragon, 52, was an employee at the Consol Mine and was on his way to work at the time of the accident.

Early deadline

The Emery County Progress office will be closed on Jan. 1, 2007. Any items for the Jan. 2, 2007 issue need to be into the Emery County Progress by noon on Dec. 28.
This includes ads, weddings, missionaries and other news items.
The Jan. 2 issue will go to print Dec. 29.
