San Rafael, Canyon View split Junior High games

The Canyon View Cougars traveled to San Rafael Jr High and split varsity basketball games. The Cougar boys won 77-60 while the Bulldog girls won 36-23. The San Rafael junior varsity teams won both of those games.
In the girls’ game, San Rafael took the early lead as Canyon View had trouble getting the ball to go in the basket. Jessica Moss scored 4 points in the opening quarter for San Rafael while Ashley Alger scored Canyon View’s only basket, as San Rafael led 11-3 after one period. Both teams then scored seven points in the second quarter.
Nikki Rogers scored all 10 Bulldog third quarter points while Alger scored all six of the Cougar points. San Rafael now led 28-16. Canyon View missed nine free throws in the period. Alger scored five of the seven points in the final quarter for Canyon View while four girls split the Bulldog scoring.
Leading scorer in the game for San Rafael was Rogers with 12 points. Markette Tanner, Taylor Mann, Jessica Bergeman and Jessica Moss each scored 4 points. Taylor Jewkes, Whitney Roper and Shelby Mason each scored 2 points. Brooke Jensen and Kristin Weber each scored a single point.
For Canyon View, Alger was the leading scorer with 15 points. Makiah Sherman scored 4 points, Gabby Guymon scored 2 points and Kristi Grange and Michele Oliver each scored a single point.
In the boy’s game, Dusty Jensen led Canyon View with 29 points. Dusty hit 4 three-pointers and was 7 for 7 at the free throw line. Tanner Procarione had 18 points and Derrick Allred scored 13 points. Also scoring were Kashe Potter and Lane Gardner with 3 points and Mark Guymon, Marcas Duran, Shawn Ison, Taylor Cox and Damion Guymon with 2 points each.
Canyon View took the early lead of 29-11 in the first quarter. San Rafael had a strong second quarter to cut the lead to 6 as they outscored Canyon View 24-12. Canyon View went back out to a big lead as they won the third quarter 19-9 and then the two teams played the fourth quarter to a draw.
Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Devin Hales with 16 points. Derek Tuttle scored 10 points, Joe Colby and Brian Langston scored 8 points each, Ben Toomer scored 3 points and Jake Fortner scored 2 points.
