Lady Pirates win, tune-up, ready for State
The Green River Lady Pirates played their last game of the season, a non-region contest against Altamont, and easily won that game 64-28.
They now travel to Richfield this Wednesday for their State 1-A tournament opener against the winner of a play-in game between Duchesne and Salt Lake Lutheran. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Pirates had an easy time as they broke to a first quarter lead of 19-3 and never looked back and were never threatened by their opponent.
They lengthened their lead to 38-12 at the half as the Pirate defense kept any effectiveness by the Altamont team from ever really getting started.
Four Pirates finished the game in double figures as their balanced scoring capabilities could keep a lot of opponents in the tournament from staying with the Pirates in their quest for a championship. Adriana Cordova led the team with 17 points. Heidi Vetere finished the game with 15 points. Charle Vetere scored 13 points and Brandi Webster finished with 11 points. Also scoring in the game were McKenzie and Lindsey Spadafora, each with 4 points.
The tournament is held at the Sevier Valley Center. The easiest way to get there is to take the second Richfield exit and work your way back north along the east frontage road. When they win Wednesday, they play at 4 p.m Thursday.
Good luck Lady Pirates.
