Randy Krompel
PRICE – Randy Lynn Krompel, 52, passed away suddenly Feb. 13, 2007 at his home.
He was born Feb. 17, 1954 in Price to William and Leah Olsen Krompel. Married Nancy Russell in Wellington. Later divorced.
Member of the LDS Church. Lifelong resident of Carbon County and former employee of U.S. Fuel at Hiawatha. Randy enjoyed being on the farm, working the land and seeing things grow. He enjoyed being around and caring for animals. He liked camping and being in the outdoors.
Survived by parents, William and Leah, loving daughter, KaRanda; three brothers, William D. (Joni), Rick L. (Debbie), Kerry Lee, all of Price; sister, Sherry (Todd) Larsen, St. George; and four daughters, Tammy Michele, Valerie Lynn, Misty Sue, and Tresha Kay. Preceded in death by brother, Ronny; and grandparents.
Graveside service Sat., Feb. 17, 2 p.m., at Cliffview Cemetery in Price under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home, Price.
Joe A. Martinez
PRICE-Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jose “Joe” Adolfo Martinez, passed away peacefully at his granddaughter Kathy’s home on his 95th birthday. He was born Feb. 17, 1912 in Chama, N.M. to Eloy and Lucy Romero Martinez. He married Seniada Valdez, Dec. 4, 1928 in Gallina, N.M.; she died on Oct. 25, 1986.
He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a longtime resident of Carbon County where he was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America. He shared a special love of the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and camping with his family.
Joe had a great eye for livestock, especially fine horses. He will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Kathy Jo and Bobbi Jo and their families for the exceptional care they provided to their grandpa.
Survived by two daughters, Effie Roberts, Salt Lake City, and Celia Martinez, Sunnyside; three sons, Pat (Carol) Martinez, Amadeo Martinez, and Joe A Martinez Jr., all of Price; and his longtime friend, Rachel Sanchez, Price. He was also survived by two sisters, two brothers, 35 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife and five sons.
Funeral mass, Fri. Feb. 23, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Thursday and Friday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Betty Wardle
PRICE-Betty Rae Smith Wardle, age 77, passed away on Feb. 18, 2007 in Price, Utah. She was born Oct. 5, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Warren Smith and Vera Swaner Smith. She married Wayne Grant Wardle, Sept. 21, 1946 in Granger, Utah.
Betty’s family was her life. She loved playing games with her grandchildren, making quilts, sewing, genealogy research, watching the Hallmark channel and spending time with her dog. She served an LDS mission to Arkansas with her husband Wayne. She was a temple worker in the St. George Temple and the Manti Temple and worked at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Castle Dale.
She is survived by her children: Sam (Gail) Wardle of Delta, Utah; Sherry (Rod) McKnight of Boise, Idaho; Vern (Karen) Wardle of Cupertino, Calif.; Wayne Wardle of Salt Lake City, Utah; Janice (Percy) Mounteer of Huntington, Utah; Bob Wardle of Elmo, Utah; Joel (Virginia) Wardle of Price, Utah; June (Jim) Ledger of Castle Dale, Utah; Lynn (Kim) Wardle of Price, Utah; 34 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna (Bruce) Terry of Murray, Utah; and Pat (LeGrand) Bradley of Syracuse, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Warren and Vera Smith; husband, Wayne Grant Wardle; grandchildren, Ted Wardle; Sammie Mounteer; and Andrea Wardle; sister; Lila Jenkins; baby brothers; and son-in-law Rodney Komar.
Funeral services will be Thur. Feb. 22, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Castle Dale First Ward, 35 East Main. Visitation will be at 12 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Gladys Saccomanno
SPRING GLEN – Gladys Kenner Saccomanno, age 89, passed away Feb. 12, 2007 at home while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 18, 1917 in Springville to Nathaniel “Bailey” and Hazel Mason Kenner. Her family moved to Helper where she later met and married Ernest Saccomanno on July 18, 1933; he passed away on Oct. 30, 1979.
Mom was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress. She assisted her husband operating the farm for many years.
She enjoyed long hikes in surrounding areas, viewing wildlife and the changing seasons. She also loved traveling, playing cards with family and friends, and was an avid reader. She loved her wonderful collection of clown figurines and pictures that she acquired over many years.
She is survived by children, Maryanne Biljanic, Midvale; Erna (Paul) Porter, Palm Desert, Calif.; Frances (Gary) Hanson, Frank (Lee) Saccomanno, both of Spring Glen; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Our mother was preceded in death by parents; husband, Ernest; granddaughter, Jean Porter; five siblings, Freda Kenner, Chris Compton, Mildred Morris, Bonnie Osoro and Boyd Kenner.
Memorial service Sat., Feb. 17, 11 a.m., at Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Fredric Meeks
HELPER-Fredric J. Meeks, age 60, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 14, 2007 at his home. He was born June 5, 1946 in Kanab, Utah to Jack and Joan Schmidt Meeks.
Fredric was a graduate of Clearfield High School and Stevens Henager College of Business. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Fred was a very simple person who always thought of others first. He enjoyed people, and especially the time he shared with the children of Castle Valley Center in Price.
Fred was an avid reader, he loved to watch movies and go fishing. He was presently employed at Swift’s in Helper where he was a friend to all. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by his parents, Jack and Joan Meeks, Sunset, Utah; brothers, Howard (Kathie) Meeks, West Point, Utah, Joseph (Dee) Meeks, Ogden; sister, Margaret (Buddy) Buchanan, Drakesboro, Ken.; lifelong companion, Colleen Wilson, Helper; sons, Colter (Amy) Wilson, Salt Lake City, Rajens (Desiree) Wilson, Price; and his little buddy and special grandson, Riley Wilson.
Funeral service was held Sat. Feb. 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street, Price. Family was a Mitchell’s Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment in the Mt. View Cemetery in Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
Thelma Wright
HELPER-Thelma Manchester Wright, age 95, passed away Feb. 18, 2007 at Parkdale Care Center in Price. She was born July 11, 1911 in Kenilworth to Charles LeRoy Manchester and Jessie Irene Cole. Married Wilmer Claude Wright Aug. 22, 1931 in Randolph, Utah; he died April 25, 2000. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Thelma loved camping with family and friends, and spending winters in Yuma, Ariz. with her husband. She enjoyed crafts, knitting and crocheting.
Survived by one daughter and two sons, Claudette (Lou) Mele, Price, Walter L. (Linda) Wright, Paonia, Colo., Jerry (Heather) Wright, Price; nine grandchildren, Louie, Greg, Jamie, Julie, Tonie, Craig, Jerry, Shannon, Tidge, and 29 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Pattie, great-granddaughter Mandy; sisters, Betty Jewkes, Margaret James, and brothers, Maurice “Bud” Manchester, John “Jack” Manchester, and two infant sisters.
Memorial service will be held Fri. Feb. 23, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Parkdale Care Center, 250 East 600 North, Price, UT 84501, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Tommy Hovat
PRICE – Thomas John Hovat Jr., age 61, passed away suddenly from heart failure on Feb. 13, 2007.
He was born Feb. 7, 1946 in Price, to Thomas Hovat Sr. and Irene Daskalos. Married Patti Helsley in 1972 in Price. Later divorced. Together they had one son, Thomas Guy Gourdin who now resides in Salt Lake City.
Member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid sports fan. In his younger years he played baseball on the Helper all-star teams.
He was a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1964.
Tommy owned and operated the Carbon Barber Shop for many years, and he later worked for Si Lobato at the Salt Lake Airport Barber Shop and at Atwood’s Barber Shop in Price.
He will be dearly missed by family, friends and many longtime patrons.
Survived by mother, Irene Hovat, Helper; brothers, Michael Hovat, Spring Glen; Nick Hovat, Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Mary Katherine (Keary) Tonks, Pocatello, Idaho; Christy Rich, Price; and loving nieces and nephews, Roy and Monnica Rich, Erica (Brandon) VanZant, Nicole and Michael Hovat Jr., Brandon (Kenda) Gadish, and Mandy Gadish. Preceded in death by grandparents; and father, Thomas Hovat Sr.

Helen Maxfield
CASTLE DALE-Helen L. Maxfield passed away on Feb. 18, 2007 at the Emery County Care Center in Ferron. Helen was born on July 18, 1918 in Magna, Utah to Leslie and Ellen Robinson. She married Weldon H. (Shorty) Maxfield on July 3, 1935.
She is survived by their three sons: Rex D. of Huntington; G. Dell (Billie); Kenneth H. of Castle Dale; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by many extended family members and good friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers.
A graveside service will be held Feb. 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Manti City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
