David C. Wilde
PRICE-David Crockett Wilde, age 70, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family.
He was born April 16, 1936 in Hiawatha, Utah to Earl and Ora Christensen Wilde.
Married Gail Lowe, March 9, 1957 in Hiawatha; she passed away June 16, 2000.
Crockett was a member of the Price Elks Lodge # 1550, where he was involved in many of the activities at the lodge. He was a retired member of U.M.W.A. Hiawatha Local # 6363.
He was a skilled mechanic and auto body repairman. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and he played an occasional game of golf until his health failed. Crockett enjoyed building mini cabins, lamps, cutting wood, playing pool and driving his 56 Pontiac.
He was always willing to help his friends and family. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and will be dearly missed.
Survived by his three daughters, Gaylynn Sterling, Laughlin, Nev.; Tammy (Neal) Warner, Grace (Paul) Gutierrez, both Price; brother, Robert (Renee) Wilde, Salt Lake City; sister, Emily Chandler, Delta, Utah; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gail; daughter, Denise and brother, Bert Wilde.
Memorial service, Fri. Feb. 23, 2007, 1 p.m., Price Elks Lodge. Family was at the Elk’s Lodge one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Willis Olson Jr.
DELTA,COLO./PRICE-Willis Olson Jr., age 75, passed away suddenly Feb. 18, 2007 in Delta, Colo. Born Sept. 6, 1931 in Huntington, Utah to Willis Olson Sr. and Jennie Hinkins.
Married Alice Jackson, Dec. 22, 1953 in Price, Utah. Willis and Alice had two sons, and during their child rearing years their home was shared with love for 28 foster children.
Willis honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the V.F.W. Miner’s Post # 2379 of Price.
During his working years, he worked in various coal, uranium, potash and trona mines in Utah and Wyoming. In 1989 he retired from US Fuel, where he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Hiawatha Local # 6363.
After their retirement, Willis and Alice loved to travel. In the summer and fall months they would stay in Price. During the winter they would spend time in Quartzite, Ariz., and later move to their home in Desert Hot Springs for the rest of the winter. After Alice’s passing in 2000, Willis remained in Price to care for his mother until his health no longer permitted. In 2002, he underwent triple bypass surgery and moved to Delta, to be with his son.
Willis was a member of the LDS Church. He was a fun loving person who always put family first. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping was his passion. Willis made the best of everything, and on the morning of his passing he was getting ready to go ice fishing at Blue Mesa Reservoir.
Survived by his son, Willis John (Jamie) Olson, Delta, Colo.; brother, Robert (Darlene) Olson, Spring Glen; sister, Colleen (George) Farish, Helper; daughter-in-law, Mindy Kessler Olson; grandchildren, Christina Laree (Shaun) Peterson, Willis Lee, Robert “Bobby”, Joe Preston, Tyler, Jimmy and Mandy Olson Cripps; great-grandchildren, Kaneisha Preston, Rylee Cripps, Alice Olson Peterson, Shaun Peterson, Trevor Peterson; his lifelong friend and uncle, Art (Frances) Hinkins, Salt Lake City; best friend, Leroy (Mary) Hunt, Fort Bridger, Wyo.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Alice; son, Jack Olson, parents, and foster son, Johnny Hutchins.
He will be truly missed and loved by all who knew him.
Funeral service, Sat., Feb. 24, 2007, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. Family was at Mitchell’s Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, 3 p.m. Grand Valley Cemetery in Moab.
Lester Hutchens
PRICE- Longtime resident of Carbon County, Lester Virgil Hutchens, age 92, passed away peacefully Feb. 22, 2007 in Price.
He was born Sept. 8, 1914 in Wellington, Colo., and was adopted along with his younger sister Dorothy, in Denver, Colo. on Sept. 25, 1920 by Arthur Virgil and Cora Bell Wolfenbarger Hutchens. Graduated from Paonia High School in 1932, and later married Clara “Peggy” Simpson, Hotchkiss, Colo. on July 13, 1941. He became a proud veteran of WWII when he entered the United States Navy in 1942, serving in the 2nd Amphibian Corp. in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands.
In 1958 he moved from Grand Junction to Price, where he managed Cate-Carbon Equipment Company for 20 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Kiwanis and Price Elk’s clubs, and served as a member of the Carbon County Draft Board. He loved fishing, growing tomatoes, pole beans and roses.
Lester is preceded in death by his devoted wife Peggy of 38 years who passed away on Dec. 24, 1978, his youngest son, Dale A. Hutchens who passed away by a coincidence of fate eight hours prior to Lester’s passing, his most beloved first born grandson, Terry G. Haslam, and his second wife Anna Lucile Hutchens who passed away on March 7, 2006.
Survived by his children, Jerry E. (Kathy) Hutchens, Fairview; Larry H. (Monina) Hutchens, Wilton, N.Y.; Sandra M. (Brent) Wasmer, Draper; grandchildren, Paul Jeffery (See) Hutchens, Groton, Conn.; Stacy Amber Hutchens, Knoxville, Tenn.; Jennifer N. (Bryson) Anderson, Draper; Tery-Colin “Woody” Wasmer, Draper, and Erin Elizabeth Pietsch-Weedop (Tyrell), Salt Lake City; daughters-in-law, Shaunna (Bruce) Haslam, Lehi and Sally (Terry) Pietsch, Syracuse; Lester was also survived by Lucile’s children, David Ronald (Nancy) Robertson, Billings, Mont.; Donald (Cindy) Robertson, White Hall, Mont. and Janice (Jim) Randolph, Price.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parkdale Care Center for their attention and love of Lester.
Graveside service, Wed., Feb. 28, 2:30 p.m., Price City Cemetery. Family will gather at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Margret Sidwell Taylor
CARBON COUNTY-Margret Ann Sidwell Taylor, age 62, passed away Feb. 21, 2007 from complications of a series of falls. She was born Dec. 14, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah; the loving daughter of Reginald H. and LaVon Bryner Sidwell.
Margret lived her early years in Helper and attended schools in Carbon County where she graduated with honors. She moved to Salt Lake City to further her education at the University of Utah where she graduated with her bachelors degree and was accepted to the U of U Law School Program. In 1970, she received her Juris Doctorate in Law from the U of U. Margret began her career as the first woman lawyer of the staff of the Salt Lake County Public Defender’s Office and was recognized as the 57th woman lawyer admitted to the Utah State Bar.
Margret was blessed with a bright mind and intellect, with a never ending determination. In 1977, she moved back to her beloved Carbon County, opened her practice in Helper, and made her home in the foothills of Kenilworth where she lived until her death.
Margret had a great passion for her work, community, and she served as past president of the Helper City Business Association. Margret always rooted for the underdog, and she spent most of her legal career supporting and defending those in need or trouble. She never walked away from a challenge.
Margret was married to Clark Taylor and later divorced.
She is survived by numerous cousins, a community of friends, and her faithful companions, Staysee, Lily and Juliet.
Services for Margret will be held Wed. Feb. 28, 2007 at noon at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. A visitation will take place beginning at 11:30 a.m. At the family’s request, she will be buried at the Mountain View Cemetery in Helper. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, The College of Eastern Utah or a charity of choice.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Parkdale Care Center, Castleview Hospital, and her many friends for their love and concern for Margret.
Bill Perri
SPRING GLEN-Our loving father, grandfather and beloved brother, Basil Bill Perri, age 94, passed away Feb. 21, 2007 at his son and daughter-in-law’s home in Price. Born Dec. 1, 1912 in Sunnyside, Utah to Domenico and Maria Jiuseppa Fazzio Perri. Married Frances “Dollie” Skriner March 29, 1947 in Spring Glen; she passed away on Nov. 4, 2006.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, and a lifelong resident of Carbon County where he was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America District #22.
Bill honorably served his country in the US Army, where he joined the forces on Normandy Beach and followed General Patton throughout Germany. He was a member of SNPJ Lodge #689. Bill and Dollie loved to polka with family and friends at the Slovenian Home in Spring Glen.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He loved working on equipment and operating heavy equipment. His greatest love was building jeeps, and going to all the races with his family under the name of “Daddy Rat.”
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Tisa Pendergrass from Community Nursing Services, and Marianne Vouk and her family for the loving care of Bill.
Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Kerry Perri, Price; grandchildren, Alicia (Bill) Kelley, and Jalynn Snider; five great-grandchildren, Cassie Martin, Andie Kelley, McKenzie Kelley, Daniel Jay (DJ) Snider, BreAnna Snider; three brothers and three sisters, Ross Perri, Helper, Venice Lami, Price, Florence Butkovich, Price, Tony Perri, Spring Glen, Mike (Ellen) Perri, Rock Springs, Wyo., Emma (Tony) Beacco, Price; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Domenic, Angelo and Pete; and a sister, Viola.
Funeral mass was held Sat. Feb. 24, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper, with the vigil service beginning at 10 a.m. Family received friends at St. Anthony’s Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
Olena Marchello
PRICE- Our kind, loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Olena Mae Curtis Marchello, passed away Feb. 23, 2007.
She was born May 24, 1927 in Woodside, Utah to Joseph and Estella Olsen Curtis. Married John Curtis Marchello, July 17, 1949 in Helper; he passed away on Sept. 2, 2006.
Olena worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator for 30 years. After retiring she began oil painting and painted beautiful outdoor scenes. Olena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was a wonderful homemaker, making all those that visited feel welcome. She loved to cook, bake and can. Olena loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, gardening and most of all accompanying her husband Curtis on the mountain and the farm. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and they will dearly miss her beautiful smile, laugh and her beautiful blue eyes.
Survived by her children, Diane (James) Dart, Barney (Cindy) Marchello, Susan (Kyle) Davis, all of Price; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one more great-grandson on the way; sister, Kathleen Ball, Montana; brother, Connie Curtis, Lawrence. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Curtis; three brothers, Max, Russel, and George; and three sisters, Frankie, Delcina and Wilma.
Graveside service will be held Thurs., March 1, 1 p.m., at the Price City Cemetery.
Family and friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday from 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
