Annual Spring Clean Up


Meet at the Mayor’s Park in Ferron on March 24 at 9 a.m. Donuts and juice provided. Bring rakes, shovels, gloves and push brooms. Work in your neighborhood or help with a service project. Free garbage bags.Sponsored by The Beautification Committee.

Free Packet of Family Photos


If you are interested in receiving a free packet of family photos call the Extension office at: 381-2381. The packet includes a 16×20, 4-8×10’s, 4-5×7’s and 16 wallets. All you have to do is sell 10 certificates for $10. The certificate entitles the purchaser to a 16×20 family portrait. There is no obligation to purchase anything else. This is a fundraiser for the Emery County 4-h and your support is greatly appreciated. Photos will be back in time for Mother’s Day.

Historical Society


The Emery County Historical Society’s March general meeting will be March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. Dr. Allan Kent Powell with the Utah State Historical Society will be the guest speaker. His topic will be on Utah’s Experience with German Prisoners of WWI and WWII. Christine Jensen will entertain with musical selections.

Habitat for Humanity


Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country (Emery and Carbon counties) meets the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Carbon County Courthouse small conference room. This meeting is open to the public. To put in an application or get more information about HFH call our new office 435-637-9701, Mon-Sat, or stop in (All Scrapped Up, 170 South 700 East, Price). Looking for three people from Emery County to fill board positions for 2007. Donations toward the present wheel-chair accessible house being completed for a family of five in Valley View Subdivision, Castle Dale,(this family has worked right along side volunteers for more than three years now), can be sent to HFHofCC, P.O. Box 724, Price, UT 84501. A Helping-Hand-Up, Not a Hand-Out. Your donation, large or small, will make this possible in 2007.

Scrapbook and Card Class


A scrapbook and card class will be held on March 16 from 5:30-midnight at the Castle Dale Senior Citizen Center. All night crop class, cost varies. For more information call Tiffany at 435-384-2272.

Basketball Tournament


Emery High School Men and Women Alumni Basketball Tournament sponsored by Emery County Recreation will be on April 21 from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee per person. Register as a team or individuals. Anyone who attended EHS from 1963 to present can play. Call Mark Justice’s office at 687-2403 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m., ask for Cheryl.

All Star Cheerleading


Emery all star cheerleading competition team tryouts, April 27 and 30 at 4 p.m. Ages 9-18. Deposits are required. Regular classes for ages 3-11 start in September, no tryouts necessary. For more information call 687-2632.

UDOT Meeting


The next meeting for the Utah Transportation Commission will be held March 16 at 9 a.m. in the Carbon County Courthouse, County Commission Chambers.

Vendors Wanted


The Emery County Fair is now accepting applications for food and general vendors for the Emery County Fair which will be held Aug. 2, 3, and 4. To be and exclusive food vendor, you must have your application into the Emery County Recreation office by March 23. You may pick up an application at the Emery County Recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, or go to the website at www.emerycounty.com/fair/vendor. Chili Cook Off


The first annual chili cook off will be held on March 24 at 2 p.m. $5 for all you can eat until it’s gone. All proceeds help local veterans and their families. For more information or to enter call 435-637-7424.

Cal Ripken Baseball Sign ups


The Emery County Cal Ripken Baseball sign ups for ages 7-12 will be held March 14-15 from 6-8 p.m. You can go to the following places in your town to sign up; Elmo-city hall; Cleveland- city hall; Huntington- old city hall; Castle Dale- rec center; Orangeville- Cottonwood Elementary; Ferron- city hall; and Emery- city hall. At large sign up in Castle Dale at the rec center. The cost is $35 for major and minor teams (ages 9-12) and $25 for rookie teams (machine pitch, age 7-8).

Seniors and Disabled Struggling with Debt


The DCSD legal service is designed to help seniors and disabled people who cannot afford to hire an attorney to file for bankruptcy, but need legal representation to get collectors to stop harassing them, Call 1-800-992-3275 Ext. 1304 with any questions.

Founder’s day


The College of Eastern Utah will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the college on March 24. All friends and alumni of the college are welcomed to make a reservation to attend . Call 613-5256 by March 16. Tickets are $30 per person.

Engineering Program


The Utah State University annual Engineering State program will be held on June 11-14. For all high school students entering their junior or senior year who have a strong interest in math, science, technology or aviation and display citizenship excellence on their scholastic record. Miss Emery Pageant


The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jerilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on March 22 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

New Beginnings

Civil Air Patrol


The Castle Valley Composite Squadron volunteer organization with co-ed program is being offered for 11-18 year olds. Senior participation program is available also.
