Lahoma Alice Goodin
EAST CARBON/TURNQUIST, ELMO-Lahoma Alice Goodin, 75, returned to her Heavenly Father March 14, 2007 after a brief illness at Castleview Hospital. She was born July 10, 1931, in Texhoma Okla., to Alice Noble and John Texhoma Weatherly. She married Alton “Bud” Loy Goodin July 28, 1949, in Texhoma, Okla.
Alice Goodin was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She served on this earth in all she did with honor. Alice was a nurse from the “Old School” ways, and was well known for her wonderful care of patients. She loved the mountains and loved road trips. She never minded detour signs along the way that would take her along a winding mountain pass.
Alice and Bud were seen every Tuesday night, for their date, at the Star Grill enjoying each other, family, and music. She lived in Moab and worked at Allen Memorial Hospital, she also worked for several years at Castleview Hospital in Price, Utah. Alice was a member of the LDS church. We will miss our sweet mother and friend; her quiet strength and tender ways.
Alice is survived by her husband Bud Goodin, her children: Alton “Buddy”, (Kathleen) Goodin, of Wellington, Utah, Carolyn (Ken) Kay, of Castle Dale, Utah, Detra (Peter) Borner, of Montrose, Colo.; grandchildren: Boyd McFarland, Desiree Goodin, Nataleen Einerson, Richard Goodin, Stephen Goodin, Lisa Parberry, Jennica LeBaron; eight beautiful great-grandchildren; one brother Jimmy Weatherly El Paso Texas, and one sister Sue Kaddatz of Dallas, Texas.
Services will be held Tues., March 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the East Carbon LDS church. Interment will follow the services at Castle Dale City Cemetery.
We want to thank the nurses and staff at Castleview Hospital, who took such good care of Alice while in the hospital. They went above and beyond for their fellow nurse.
Sue Whitlock
EAST CARBON- Sarah Frances “Sue” Coggins Goniotakis Whitlock, age 79, passed away in the loving arms of her family on March 17, 2007, at her daughter’s home in Price.
She was born Jan. 23, 1928 in Powhatan, Ala. to Tilton James and Alice Idella Hogan Coggins.
Married Steve E. Goniotakis, June 27, 1946 in Reno, Nev.; he passed away on April 17, 1958. On Jan. 11, 1969, she married Warren B. Whitlock in Price, and together they shared 38 wonderful years together.
Sue was a longtime resident of East Carbon where she was a devoted member of the East Carbon Community Church. She always had a great faith in Jesus, her church, and the care of others. Sue graduated from Carbon High School, Carbon College and received her bachelors in education from Utah State University. After completion of her schooling, she returned to East Carbon where she began teaching at Petersen Elementary. She was active in her school, a volunteer for Headstart, and a member of BETA.
Sue loved to bowl, travel, but most of all she loved her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her unconditional love and generosity to others.
She is survived by her husband, Warren B. Whitlock, East Carbon; three daughters, Patricia “Patsy” Frandsen, Linda Diane (Mike) Doporto, both of Price, Terri (Art) Salas, Spring Glen; brothers and sisters, Mary Brotherson, Pauline “Polly” Kranker, Dorothy “Dot” (Perry) Fry, Joy (Don) Huitt, Helen (Brian) Owen, Jerry (Dixie) Coggins, Carol Wilding, Shirley (Bill) Butz, Linda (Kent) Lindsay, Charlotte (Bill) Sibley; and nine loving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Bill and Bobby Coggins.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Community Nursing Services, and a special thanks to Tisa Pendergrass.
Funeral service, Wed. March 21, 2007, 11 a.m., East Carbon Community Church. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church in East Carbon Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Jewel Parr
EAST CARBON-Jewel Williamson Parr, age 90, passed away suddenly at her daughter’s home in Price on March 17, 2007.
She was born Feb. 21, 1917 in Lamesa, Texas to James Roy and Mary Luella Dillon Williamson.
Married Dee D. Parr, June 11, 1941 in Duncan, Okla.; he died on Jan. 5, 1990.
Jewel was a member of the Baptist faith and she loved to read her Bible. She was a resident of East Carbon since1945, where she cared for many children over the years as a foster parent. Jewel enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, knitting and caring for her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jewel leaves behind three sons and two daughters, Donald (Lana) Parr, Richard Parr, both of Salt Lake, Brenda Howerton, Price, Kenneth (Susan) Parr, Clinton, Utah, Gina Kranker, Delta, Colo.; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband; great-granddaughter MayKala Howerton; three brothers and one sister.
Funeral service, Thurs., March 22, 2007, 2 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Benton R. Hildebrand
1946-2007
SALT LAKE CITY-In the late evening hours of March 17, 2007, Benton died peacefully at home.
A man with rough edges and a soft middle, he faced every challenge with determination. While he enjoyed many things, none were as great as sharing time with his family.
Married the love of his life, Marilyn Mancina, on June 8, 1968 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Marilyn Hildebrand, sons, Alex (Teresa), Nat (Carey), Nicholas, Zachary (Pam), his daughter Beth (Gavin), his grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, Riley, Kellan, and Samantha; and many in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
Funeral Mass, will be held at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church on Thurs., March 22, 2007, at 10 a.m. Vigil service, will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price, Utah on Wed., March 21, at 7 pm. Interment will follow in the Price City Cemetery, where he will join his daughter, Vanessa Leigh.
Wesley D. Shepherd
Wesley D. Shepherd passed away on March 18, 2007 in North Pole, Alaska. He was born on Sept. 10 1925.
Wesley spent the last five years in Green River with his companion of 13 years, Leila Dean. He was a veteran of World War II. Wesley was a trucker who hauled uranium in the Moab area and he hauled over the road.
Wesley is survived by his companion, Leila Dean and his eight children; Terry, Sherry, Duane, James Vernon (JV), Cole Wayne, Morgan, Corey and Calico.
A memorial service will be held on March 21 at 2 p.m. at the Green River Community Center.
Wesley requested that his body be cremated under the direction of Fairbanks Funeral Home.
Lucy Martinez
HELPER-Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and beloved friend, Maria de la Luz Sisneros Martinez, affectionately known as Lucy, left us on March 16, 2007 at the age of 89 due to Alzheimers.
She was born May 1, 1917 in Ojo Caliente, N.M. to Aurelio and Serafina Aragon Sisneros.
Married Elias “Lee” C. Martinez, July 21, 1946 in Elko, Nev.; he passed away Sept. 25, 1982, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Lucy came to the Carbon County area as a young girl and spent most of her life in the communities of Price, Helper, Columbia, Standardville and Castle Gate. She raised her family mostly in Castle Gate and was very proud of her community. For the past five years she shared her life at Parkdale Care Center in Price. She was an active member of the LDS Church in Castle Gate and Helper, and she served in a variety of positions.
Lucy is survived by three sons and two daughters, Robert (Sharon) Martinez, Richfield, Gloria (Arthur) Smith, Brinnon, Wash., Gary (Judy) Martinez, Palmdale, Calif., Michael (Beverly) Martinez, Price, Mary Ann Martinez, Salt Lake City; daughter-in-law, Josie Pando, Hesperia, Calif.; brother, Raymond (Catherine) Sisneros, Price; 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, son, Ronald Martinez; granddaughter, Jennifer Jackman; step-son, Phillip Martinez; brothers, Paul, Joe, Victor, Manuel, Abel; and sisters, Ursula and Ascension.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the entire staff of Parkdale Care Center for their care of our mother.
