Corporal Chris Petersen, United States Marine Corps, recently deployed to Al Anbar, Iraq from Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma. Petersen has been stationed in MCAS since April, 2004. According to The Desert Warrior, a weekly publication of the Air Station, “approximately 250 Marines and Sailors from Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 371 drew M-16A service rifles and M-9 pistols, loaded their gear and boarded planes to join fellow Marines for a seven month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. MWSS-371 will be relieving the Marines of MWSS-373 from MCAS Miramar, Calif. The squadron has been training since August 2006, participating in Operation Desert Talon and the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course in preparation for this deployment.”
Corporal Petersen is a 2002 graduate of Emery High School. Prior to his assignment to Yuma, Petersen was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he participated in operations that took him to Queensland, Australia and South Korea. He also deployed to Thailand as part of Operation Unified Assistance following the tsunami in January 2003.
