Senator Bob Bennett Office Hours

Easter Sunrise Service


First Baptist Church of Emery County will be holding an Easter Sunrise Service at 7:20 a.m. on April 8 followed by our Easter Service at 10:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. service will feature the Easter Sunday program. Join us in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Emery County Little Miss Pageant


The Emery County Little Miss Pageant will be held June 2 at 5 p.m. at Huntington Elementary. Ages 5-8. Girls from any Emery County town are eligible to enter. Winner will accompany Miss Emery, Kristine Johansen, to the Miss Utah competition June 26-30 in Salt Lake City at Capitol Theater. Participants will be judged on a two minute talent, a poem entitled Why is Emery County a Great Place to Live, Work and Play which they have written, and an onstage question. $40 registration fee. This pageant is a fund raiser for Miss Emery to attend and help with expenses related to Miss Utah. The Little Miss winner will receive a crown, dress and tickets to the Miss Utah Pageant. The Little Miss will escort Miss Emery during the evening gown competition.

Orangeville Easter Egg Hunt


Orangeville’s Easter Egg hunt will be held April 4 at Cottonwood Elementary. Children who can walk and are under kindergarten age will be at 12:30 p.m. Other grades will be throughout the day during school hours.

Soldiers Addresses Needed


American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Mountain Man Rendezvous


For boy scouts, varsity and venturing scouts. Come and join the fun on the Buckhorn. There will be competitive shooting of 22s, shot guns, and blackpowder rifles. Trophies will be given. April 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for boys 11-19. There is no charge. To be held at the Buckhorn rendezvous site 14 miles east of Castle Dale.

Emery County Democrats


Emery County Democrats will be holding their county convention and dinner on April 12 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael (96 North 100 East in Castle Dale). All interested people are welcome to attend. County party officers will be elected and local and state party leaders will speak. Dinner, entertainment and prize drawing will also be provided. Tickets will be available at the door or contact your precinct chair or county officers.

Student Art Show


The College of Eastern Utah student art show will be held April 9- 27 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. An opening reception will be held on April 13 from 7-9 p.m.

Contractor Awareness Program

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on April 12 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Basketball Camp

Easter sunrise service will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 8. Following the service a buffet breakfast and Easter egg hunt for the children will be held.

Castle Valley Pageant


It’s time to sign up for the Castle Valley Pageant to be held on Aug. 2-4 and 7-11. Families are encouraged to sign up together. Priority may be given when parents are participating. Enrichment Meeting


The Stake Relief Society Enrichment meeting will be held on April 14 from 9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center. A luncheon will be served. All young women laurels are invited.

Cleveland Meeting


The April meeting for the Cleveland Town Council has been changed from April 12 to April 19. The meeting will be held that the Cleveland town office, 100 West Main at 7 p.m. The Cleveland Town Council encourages all residents to be involved in the progressive improvements of the community.

Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country (Emery and Carbon counties) meets the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Carbon County Courthouse small conference room. Basketball Tournament


Emery High School Men and Women Alumni Basketball Tournament sponsored by Emery County Recreation will be on April 21 from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee per person. All Star Cheerleading


Emery all star cheerleading competition team tryouts, April 27 and 30 at 4 p.m. Ages 9-18. Deposits are required. Regular classes for ages 3-11 start in September, no tryouts necessary. For more information call 687-2632.

Emery High Rodeo Team

Miss Emery Pageant


The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jerilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Support Group for Parents

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
