The SouthEastern Utah OHV Club hosted its annual Swell Cure for Cabin Fever poker ride on March 24. Although the weather looked threatening, the ride was very well attended with riders coming from all over the state and many local riders too.
Tom Brereton and Clifford Snow organized the ride this year and were pleased with the turnout. They expressed their appreciation to many local businesses for donating prizes for the ride. The businesses were: Magnuson Lumber, High Velocity Sports, Carbon/Emery Motorsports, Rocky Mtn. ATV, and Utah Trail Machine Association.
This ride is held annually two weeks before Easter and everyone is welcome to come out and ride and shake the winter blahs.
A poker ride is one where those who sign up to ride, receive a card to be punched. They then begin the ride and along the way are stops where they draw a card and the checkpoint person punches the appropriate square.
The Swell Cure for Cabin Fever poker ride covers about 30 miles in the San Rafael Swell and has many scenic viewpoints along the way. At some points, a rider can look down into the Buckhorn Draw.
For more information about the ride or to join the SEUOHVC call Annette Allen at 384-2690 or Rich Beardall at 801-380-9055, or attend the club meeting on April 4 at 7 p.m. at the county building in Castle Dale.
