Senator Bennett’s Office


The staff from Senator Bennett’s Office will be available to meet with you at the Emery County Courthouse on May 23 from 9:30- 11:30 a.m. They can assist you with problems you may be having with Federal agencies.

Aftermath of Meth


KUED’s Aftermath of Meth will be airing on May 30 at 8 p.m. It is a hard hitting probe of the drug that is devastating many small, rural communities in the West.

Utah Pride Festival

Fundraisers


Car wash fundraiser at Price Chevron next to Burger King in Price on May 12 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Kid’s Day fundraiser at Dino-Mine Adventure Park in Price on May 19 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. There will be a obstacle course jump, hot dogs, drinks, craft and bake sale. All proceeds benefit LFFC Women’s Group.

Irrigation Water Management Workshop


An irrigation water management workshop will be held on May 17 at the Huntington Senior Citizen Center from 5- 8 p.m. This workshop is designed to help irrigators achieve optimum efficiency with their irrigation systems. American Auxiliary Yard and Bake Sale


Armed Forces Day yard and bake sale sponsored by Ferron Unit 42 American Legion Auxiliary will be held on May 19 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mayor’s Park in Ferron. Funds will go toward Operation Home Support which helps send care packages to local troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan for eah holdiday during the year. Come out and help support our troops. Poppies made by Veterans will be distributed and donations appreciated.

Millsite Reservoir Two Man Scramble Fishing Tournament


A 2-man scramble trout fishing tournament will be held at Millsite Reservoir on May 19. There will be $500 prize money, Each team works together to come up with the one biggest fish. Cheerleading Clinic

Bike Festival


The San Rafael Swell Mountain Bike Festival will be held May 18-20. They will provide an event T-shirt, a spaghetti dinner on Friday, a pancake breakfast and dutch oven dinner on Saturday and a continental breakfast on Sunday. Ferron Yard Sale and Plant Exchange


The City of Ferron is having a community wide yard sale and plant exchange on May 19, at Mayor’s Park, from 8 a.m. -1 p.m. Lots of good items andcrafts. The cost to be a seller is free but you must register with City Hall at 384-2350. If you have extra plants, seeds or flowers (after your thin your garden) bring them to the park to share with others. The plants and flowers are free.

Grants for Sustaining Agriculture

Men’s and Women’s Slow Pitch Softball


Emery County Recreation is currently registering teams for women’s slow pitch softball and men’s slow pitch softball. Men’s league will be a metal bat league. All forms must be returned to the recreation office no later than May 18. Full registration fee must accompany the form. Forms may be picked up at the recreation office located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale, or can be downloaded from the Web site www.emerycounty.com/rec. Soldiers Addresses Needed


American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have love ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Old Mine Maps

Retreat for Girls


Retreat for Girls is for girls LDS girls ages 12-15, 11 year olds can come upon request. The program is held at Utah State University on June 25-29. Food Handler’s Classes


Food handler’s classes will be taught on May 17 and June 21 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the SEUDHD office, 25 West Main in Castle Dale. For more information call 381-2252. Miss Cleveland Pageant

Emery County Gun Club


New, youth ages 10-18 and all women shoot at reduced price from 5-7 p.m. Everyone is welcome from 7 p.m. on. New, A and B class for all games, provides everyone with an equal chance to win. Next shoot is May 12.

Emery Junior Miss Pageant


The Emery Junior Miss Pageant will be held June 2 at 5 p.m. at Huntington Elementary. Ages 5-8. Winner will accompany Miss Emery, Kristine Johansen, to the Miss Utah competition June 26-30 in Salt Lake City at Capitol Theater. Participants will be judged on two minute talent, a poem entitled Why is Emery County a Great Place to Live, Work and Play which they have written, and an on stage question. $40 registration fee. It’s time to sign up for the Castle Valley Pageant to be held on Aug. 2-4 and 7-11. Families are encouraged to sign up together. Priority may be given when parents are participating. Miss Emery Pageant


The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number.
