Stella Perea
PRICE- Stella Gallegos Perea, age 90, passed away May 8, 2007 in Price. She was born Oct. 22, 1916 in Pecos, N. M. to Atanacio and Jennie Dalton Gallegos. Married Pete Tony Perea, May 23, 1934 in Las Vegas, N.M.; he died May 20, 2003.
Stella was a member of the Notre Dame de Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, where she attended Mass every Sunday. She loved to crochet, bowl, and her favorite was bowling on the mixed league with her husband Pete.
Stella had a great love for her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and they all affectionately called her “Grandma Cookie”. We love you, and will miss you for all your loving and caring ways.
Survived by one daughter and four sons, Pat (Rex) Tryon, Dick (Connie) Perea, Gary (Irene) Perea, all of Price; Ralph Perea and Dottie Byrd, Moab; Pete (Peggy) Perea, Salt Lake City; 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Tony, Bill, Albert; five sisters, Agnes, Vera, Mida, Louisa, and Lena.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Shane Gagon and the entire staff at the Parkdale Care Center.
Funeral Mass was held Fri., May 11, 2007, 12 Noon, Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service was Thursday evening 7 p.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Thursday evening at 6 p.m. and Friday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home.
William Houskeeper
EAST CARBON/WELLINGTON – William Kent Houskeeper passed away peacefully at home May 8, 2007. Kent was able to remain at home as he wished during his long battle with cancer due to the constant and tender care of his loving wife, Helen.
Born Nov. 19, 1921 in Orangeville, to William Henry Houskeeper and Martha Burnett. He married Mary Helen Blackburn June 8, 1942 in Santa Monica, Calif. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple April 4, 1945 and enjoyed an enduring life together for nearly 65 years.
Kent was in the CCC and later served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings, including ward clerk and stake clerk. He had a great love for genealogy and extraction work and spent countless hours doing so. Kent always worked long hours throughout his life.
He was a barber owning and operating his shop in Dragerton, East Carbon, for 57 years. He always enjoyed his many friends and patrons.
He was also a coal miner and was a member of UMWA Local 9958. He made time to serve his community as an East Carbon City councilmember, and police chief for a time as well. He was a good man and his love and association will be greatly missed by many.
Survived by wife; daughters, Carrie (Alvie) Ward, Kaysville; Kathryn (Michael) Peczuh, Carbonville; sons, Gary, Price; Karl (Joyce) Wellington; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Ted (Rosetta) Houskeeper, Ogden; Grant (Naomi) Houskeeper, Salt Lake; sisters, Carol (Norman) Brown, Riverton; and Sarah (Sherman) Howard, Riverton. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Cliffe and George; sisters, Reba, Wilma, Fawn Ella, and Anna Vee; daughter-in-law, Kayrene; and great-grandson, Ryker Houskeeper. His family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Glen Etzel and staff, Rocky Mountain Hospice, Rick Stockburger, Sunny and Deborah for their wonderful care, and especially family and friends for their love and support.
Funeral services will be Fri., May 11, 11 a.m., at the Wellington Fourth LDS Ward Chapel. Viewing Thurs., May 10, at Fausett Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment, Ferron City Cemetery.
Eutimio(Tim) Sanchez
SUNNYSIDE-Our loving and caring father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Tim Sanchez, age 60, passed away peacefully in his home on May 11, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1947 in Gallup N.M. to Eugene and Paula Sanchez.
Tim had a big, generous heart and loved to make people laugh. His sense of humor could always keep you laughing and put a smile on your face. He loved to spend time with his five dogs, especially Louie. He loved the outdoors and going fishing with his friends. Even just spending time relaxing in his yard.
He was also a great collector of antiques. He was proud to serve his country in Vietnam.He was an artist in his profession as a hardwood floor and refinishing installer. He will truly be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughters, Kimberly (Burton) Berry, Krys (Ray) Cordova, JoVonne Sanchez. Grandchildren – Jerrica, Josh, and Jackson; brothers, Gilbert, Gerald, Jacob, George; sisters, Veronica, Lyn, Marcia, Gina and Pearl.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eloy, and sister, Angela.

Jerry “Chewy” Wright
SPRING GLEN-Jerry L. Wright, age 54, passed away May 7, 2007. He was born July 28, 1952 in Dragerton, Utah to Wilmer and Thelma Manchester Wright. Married Christy Robinson, June 12, 1971 in Dragerton, Utah, later divorced. Married Heather Mills, July 14, 2006 in Helper.
“Chewy” was a longtime resident of Carbon County where he was presently employed at Dugout Canyon Mine as a longwall maintenance coordinator. He was a graduate of Raton High School in New Mexico class of 1969. “Chewy” loved the outdoors and he cherished the times he shared with family and friends in his beloved Uintas. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fly fishing, hiking, and caring for his horse.
“Chewy” loved working with his hands, building lodge pole furniture, and he was always looking for a project to keep him busy. He will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends.
Survived by his wife, Heather Wright, Spring Glen; two sons and one daughter, Jerry L. (Shelley) Wright Jr., Price; Shanon W. (Kevin) Philips, Salt Lake City; Tidge T. (Teri) Wright, Price; step-children, Natasha Olsen, Price; Zac and Randi Garmann, both of Spring Glen; sister, Claudette (Lou) Mele, Price; Walt (Linda) Wright, Paonia, Colo.; grandchildren, Tyler, Allison, Morgan, Braxton, Jordan, Raygann, Johna, and Randee; and one great-granddaughter, Jacey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Sharon McDonald
FERRON – Sharon “Mac” McDonald, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away May 4, 2007 after a long valiant battle with cancer.
He was born June 18, 1931 in Ferron to William John and Eva Jensen McDonald.
Sharon graduated from Carbon High School, Utah State University, and had a masters degree from Oregon State University.
He retired from the Grant School District in 1991, where he was an exceptional teacher, counselor and coach for 35 years.
After retirement, he continued teaching special programs, coaching and working in the scouting program.
Sharon also served his country with pride and honor as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954.
He was most proud of his family and he loved them dearly.
He is survived by wife of 54 years, Joanne; son, David William (Tianna); daughters, JoEllen (Rick) Gough; Michelle Baird; Kristen McDonald; and Beth McDonald; five grandchildren, Shawn (Sharidi) Gough; Nicholas (Nichole) Gough; Whitney Gough; Mac Baird; and Alex Baird; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Bailey and Mikayla Gough. He is also survived by twin sisters, Shannon Gee (Philip) and Norine Verde. He was preceded in death by parents, William John and Eva Jensen McDonald; and sister, Madge Larson.
Viewing will be at Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Boulevard, from noon to 4 p.m. on Tues., May 15. Services will be Wed., May 16, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints North Highlands First Ward Chapel, 6450 Walerga Road, North Highlands. Interment will be Friday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mausoleum, 1950 East10600 South, Sandy.
Karen Hopkins
ORANGEVILLE-Karen Lynn Hopkins, age 16, died May 13, 2007 at the University of Utah Hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
She was born Aug. 8, 1990 in Price, Utah to Ronald Jerry and Bridget Bonbrake Hopkins.
Karen was a fun-loving and outgoing sophomore at Emery High School where she made many new friends. She had many hobbies, but her favorite was talking on the phone. Karen loved spending time with her family, especially with her sister and brother. She enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, and boating with her foster parents. Karen will be dearly missed by her family and many dear friends.
Survived by her mother, Bridget (Steven) Preston, East Carbon; father, Ronald Hopkins, Helper; foster parents, Charlotte (Scott) Williams, Orangeville; sister, Sarah Hopkins, Sunnyside; step-brother, Billyjo Booth, Price; grandparents, Jerry (Karen) Lemon, Sunnyside, David Bonbrake, Indiana; great-grandmother, Opal Lemon, East Carbon; godfather, Ricky (Bobbi Jo) Hopkins, Helper; aunt, Heidi (John) Gragert, Sunnyside; uncle, Shawn (Pam) Bonbrake, Price; and many other loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service, Fri., May 18, 2007, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service.

Ben Coomer
1924-2007
Ben Coomer, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque, N.M. on April 27, 2007 after a lingering illness.
Ben was the youngest of six children born to Major and Jane Bryant Coomer on Oct. 1, 1924 in Primrose, Ky.
Ben was raised in hard times in eastern Kentucky and in 1939 lied about his age and joined the U.S. Army, he was just 15 years old.
His adventures in the Army led him to see action in North Africa, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, and all of the major battles of the Italian mainland. During the war years in Italy, Ben became fluent in Italian and loved speaking the language to first and second generation Italians in Carbon County.
After the war, Ben made his way to Utah where he worked in the coal mines of Carbon and Emery counties. He later went into business for himself and owned and operated many successful cafes and restaurants in several cities in Utah and Colorado.
Ben married Erma Evans on Sept. 26, 1947 in Wellington, Utah. Two sons were born to this union: Ben Carlo Coomer (Lana) of Green River, Utah; Bruce Everett Coomer (Patricia) of Arizona. He also adopted Erma’s daughter Frankie Lee Belt Coomer of Green River, Utah. Ben and Erma later divorced.
Ben then married Lois Naranjo on June 27, 1976 in Craig, Colo. During the course of their marriage they lived in Colorado, Nevada, Alaska, Texas, Philippines (during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption) and New Mexico.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Coomer and Ervie Coomer; sisters, Reba Coomer, Lula Mae Coomer and Dosha “Micky” Calabrese (Fredrico).
Owen Dale Price
Orangeville – Owen Dale Price, 93, died May 12, 2007, in Price, Utah of complications from pneumonia. He was born April 17, 1914 in Clawson, Utah to William Henry Price and Lydia Jane Metcalf. He married Glenna Amanda Cox on Nov. 26, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Owen attended schools in Clawson and Ferron. He was a member of the CCC’s and enjoyed the association with the members for many years. He proudly served his country in the European Theater in World War II. He owned and operated Owen D. Price Construction for many years and built many of the existing roads and structures throughout Emery and Carbon Counties, including many of the roads to the uranium mines in Southeastern Utah.
He was an active member of the Emery County Historical Society and also a member of the American Legion. He was very knowledgeable of the San Rafael Swell, Nine Mile and Range Creek areas, and he loved sharing his knowledge of these places with others. His favorite place to be was on the desert with his wife, his horses, and his dogs.
He is survived by son, David Owen, Castle Dale, daughters, Connie (John) Wickman, and Kathy (Royal) Ockey, both of Orangeville; nine grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel Price, Wellington; sister, Dora Fautin, Lindon; brother-in-law, Merrill (Elaine) Cox, Provo; sister-in-law Diana Cox, Price. Preceded in death by wife, Glenna, daughter, Patricia Huntington, four sisters, and six brothers.
Graveside services will be held Wed. May 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Ferron City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tues. May 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Interment will be held in the Ferron City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Jean Wilcock
KEARNS- Ethel Jean Williams Wilcock, age 69, passed away suddenly May 11, 2007 at Pioneer Valley Hospital.
She was born March 19, 1938 in Sweets, Utah to Richard and Ethel Gilbert Williams.
Married James Edward Wilcock, Nov. 24, 1956 in Salt Lake City; he died Oct. 26, 1986.
Member of the Church of Christ where she was actively involved in many youth programs. Jean was very crafty, she loved to work with her hands and could craft about anything. She loved quilting, crocheting, and doing embroidery work. Jean enjoyed traveling with her family while her husband was serving in the military. She will be dearly missed by her family and many longtime friends.
Survived by three sons, Ricky James (Lyndle) Wilcock, Garland, Texas; Adam Scott Wilcock, Kearns; Brad Andrew (Corinne) Wilcock, Severn, Md.; six grandchildren, James, Rebecca, Amber, Logan, Zera, and Angel; three sisters and two brothers, Dixie (John) Platt, Karen Burke, Steven (Anita) Williams, all of Salt Lake City; Kay (Chuck) Jorgensen, Magna; Joe “T.J.” (Shirley) Williams, Sandy.
Preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Richard; and sister, Belva Barnes.
