Ferron discusses water schedule

At the recent Ferron City Council meeting, Council person Jo Sansevero expressed concern over the water situation in Ferron. “We have people who are watering during all hours of the day. On the recommendations of the State of Utah, there is to be no watering from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.,” stated Sansevero.
The State of Utah has, in their “Slow the Flow” campaign, determined that any watering which occurs during the heat of the day, those hours from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., there is very little benefit. Any water used during those hours is so quickly evaporated, it does not have enough time to soak in and do the landscape any benefit.
As a result, all the cities in Utah have adopted the recommendations of Utah, to discourage all residents from watering during those hours. In as much as Utah is a desert state, the need to conserve water is very great. Now, this year, with the state’s precipitation amounts this year being so drastically low, everyone needs to be reminded of the restrictions which are necessary to carry through the summer months.
If the amount of water available becomes so low, all outside watering will be banned. Residents need to watch and restrict their outside water usage. Be especially careful that no water is being wasted on the sidewalks or on weeds. With the proper adherence to the restrictions, all county residents should have enough water to last through the summer. Ferron City also discourages outside watering with culinary water.
In other business conducted by Ferron City, Council person Melinda Mecarriello announced progress in the Molen Ditch project. Permission is coming through the channels at the US Forest Service for the portion of the Molen Ditch which goes through their property in Ferron, to be filled in. Permission is also required from the Ferron Canal Company.
Mecarriello also announced she is doing research into the situation with Canyon Road. There are repairs which need to be completed this season, and she is researching contracts with Nielson Construction and the Special Service District to determine the financial responsibility of each party involved.
The council approved to hold a public hearing on June 14 to adopt the final budget for Ferron City for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. The final adopted budget must be in to the State by June 21. Copies of the proposed budget are available in City Hall for residents to read. Comments are to be taken at the public hearing.
The next Ferron City Council meeting will be June 14 at 7 p.m. in City Hall.
