On May 15, the American Legion Auxiliary #43 in Ferron presented the awards for the Americanism essay contest. This contest is a nationwide contest and the Ferron post receives essays from students who live in Ferron and Emery.
The theme for this year’s contest is “I’m Proud to be an American…” Each winner in each division was on hand to read their essays. Naomi Fortner was the winner in the high school age division. The elementary school age winners were: Aspen Bloomer; Devin Wilson; Korwin McPherron; Shalynn Jones; Mark DeBry; and Stetson Bennett.
Each of the winners received a certificate and a monetary prize. Every essay expressed the patriotism and pride the students have for America.
Dixie Swasey, auxiliary president, said, “Hearing these essays gives us all more hope for this country’s future. I am so thankful for these students and I appreciate their teachers’ support. We had more than 100 entries and we are excited about the response and support we received.”
