On May 19, the Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife of Carbon and Emery counties met at the BDAC on the College of Eastern Utah Campus for their annual banquet and auction. This group is part of a statewide organization which raises money to fund habitat projects in Utah.
The banquet chairman and his co-chairs are Jim Gilson, Bruce Sherman and Shayne Thompson. Members of the banquet committee are: Tami Gilson; Michelle Thompson, Paul Huntington; Brady Larsen; Devin Leroy; Willy Ungerman; Ethan Hurdsman; Jason Branson; Mont Gee; David Hussey; Kerry Larsen; Les Wilberg, Brandon Wilberg, Eric Luke; Casey Olsen; Tyler Gilson; Holly Monsen, Grant Monsen; and McCade Mascaro. Auctioneer for the evening was John Bair.
During the past year, the projects that where funded are: 140 acres critical winter range near Smithfield; Tebbs Hollow Mud Springs pinion juniper treatment; 440 acre treatment in Kamas; Tarantula Mesa engineer pipeline; weed mapping in Summit County; Tarantula Mesa reinstall pipeline; Hells Hole sage grouse habitat; stackyard fencing in Rich County; BYU stable isotope study; Twelve Mile WMA habitat project; Fountain Green WMA habitat project; Sage Valley Vernon habitat project; Levan farm WMA habitat project; Bill and Sophia Hall well; Brushy Basin Camp Jackson; Harvey John Kartchner Mesa; North Fork verdure/shingle mill; Indian Spring Ridge bull hog; Coyote Draw pinion juniper thinning; South Beaver vegetation enhancement; and the Beaver Cattlemen’s Association water projects. Money was also given to the DWR for projects. The total outlay for habitat projects for 2006 is $707,449.
