Stockshow Entries Due

Young Single Adults


YSA will have a bike ride and breakfast at the Panel on June 16. Take the Castle Dale turnoff SR-10 to the desert and meet at White Rocks at 7 a.m. Breakfast will await at the Buckhorn Panel. Helmets are a must. Bring your friends. The ride is mostly downhill. More activities are coming throughout the summer.

Rocky Mountain School of Baseball Summer Camps

Emery County 4-H Summer Activities


Any youth that is 8 years old or older and completed third grade may enroll in these 4-H Summer Activities. Adults please volunteer to help with these activities. bicycle rodeo, babysitting camp, quilt camp, cooking in the park, fly tying and mini fishing kit, mini society, 4-h day camp, cake decorating, robotics, arts and crafts, ceramics, tie dyed T-shirts.

Emery County Fair Theme: New Adventures Await.


Entries are due July 31. Entries are accepted at the exhibit building at the fair grounds. Food, fruits and vegetable entries will be due Aug. 1, no later than 10 a.m. Enter your projects from this past year. For junior high camps, registrations will be accepted beginning May 29. If you would like to participate in any or all of the activities but are unable to afford these camps, some scholarships are available. Contact Christine Jensen for further information. Scrapbook and Card Classes

Emery Spartan Basketball Camp

Junior Golf Program


Emery County Recreation will sponsor a junior golf program for youth ages 8-17. It will be on June 11, 18, 25 and July 2 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Millsite Golf course. A coupon will be given at the time of registration which will be June 6 at the Emery Recreation office at 75 South 400 East Castle Dale. River Rats Camp


Canyonlands Field Institute is offering a River Rats Camp for teens age 13-18 on Aug. 5-11. The campers will run the river from Loma, Colo. through Westwater during this hands-on workshop. Miss Emery Pageant


The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1. Most juniors qualify. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown.Scholarships for the winners are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Cade Jones Benefit


A benefit will be held for Cade Jones on June 7 at 5 p.m. at Canyon View Junior High. Dinner, bazaar, bake sale, auction, and raffle. Donations can be made at UP&L Credit Union in his name. Donations to the bake sale or auction can be taken to the school on the day of the benefit.

Miss Castle Dale Pageant


Castle Dale City is looking for girls ages 4-21 to be contestants in the Miss Castle Dale Pageant. Contestants must live in Castle Dale. Each contestant will be judged on appearance, talent and interview. Winners will receive cash prizes, crowns and a bouquet. The pageant will be held June 22 and the registration deadline is June 4. The pageant will be held at Emery High auditiorium. For more information call Jeanette at 381-5558. Winners will be expected to participate in parades and city celebrations.

June at John Wesley Powell Museum


The Fourth Annual Canyon River Runners Art Show will be held during June. On the June 30 the Museum is hosting Shirley Venus Day from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be a silent auction, a painting presentation, and the Nine Mile Players will play until 2 p.m. in Shirley’s honor. Cheerleading Clinic

Soldiers Addresses Needed


American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have love ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq and Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Old Mine Maps

Retreat for Girls


Retreat for Girls is for girls LDS girls ages 12-15, 11 year olds can come upon request. The program is held at Utah State University on June 25-29. Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number.
