Dorothy Ellen Ross
What was Dorothy Ellen (Hastings) Ross doing on June 6, 2007? She was celebrating 96 glorious years here on earth. She was born in GreenRiver, Utah on June 6, 1911 to Effie and Howard Hastings. She was married to John Franklin Ross on Dec. 22, 1930 at the old water wheel ranch on the Green River. She has lived most of her life right in Green River where she held the title of being the oldest born resident of that town for many years. She also wore the title of being the granddaughter of the first mayor of Green River.
Dorothy’s known for her tatted booties and afghans which she has handed down to many of her posterity which consist of four children, 25 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren with four more to be born this year. This lovely lady has been a joy and delight to all of her family and until just a few years ago she never missed sending each one of those mentioned above a birthday card with a brand new dollar bill taped inside.
This year Dorothy had to be away from her beloved community, but she still was surrounded by those who have learned to love her and care for her while she lives in Price with her daughter. She had 10 guests who brought her flowers and cards and enjoyed refreshments and a lot of laughter. One of the cards that she received was from Congressman Jim Matheson wishing her continued years of happiness.
The above picture is with her adopted college girls who spend the afternoons with Dorothy either reading, talking, drinking fruit punch, or watching a good movie. She is one of a kind and everyone that meets Dorothy loves her gentle smile and friendly greeting.
