On May 21, the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress websites became 10 years old.
The two websites came into existence on May 21, 1997 when both domains, www.sunad.com and www.ecprogress.com, were registered by Kevin Ashby.
At the time, Ashby was the publisher of the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress.
The action was considered unorthodox at the time, as many newspaper publishers throughout the nation thought the Internet was simply a passing fad that would have no impact on the industry.
Due in part to a publisher’s foresight, the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress addresses have since become two of the most popular locally owned and operated websites in the Castle Country area.
The websites continue to be an established, reliable and trustworthy source of local news, sports, society events and other informative content for Carbon and Emery county residents.
To commemorate the 10-year anniversary, the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress will be debuting new websites, slated for release later in the year.
Some of the upcoming features include:
• Breaking news.
Major news and events will be immediately posted to the websites.
Follow-up articles may be published in the next Tuesday or Thursday edition of the newspaper.
• A complete reorganization and redesign to make sites easier to use and to navigate.
• RSS (Really Simple Syndication) support.
RSS is a technology that allows the latest headlines to be downloaded to the reader’s computer automatically, without the need to view the website.
• Improved site search.
Searches will be faster, more capable and much easier to perform.
• A new classifieds section, where readers will be able to browse, search and buy classified ads from one place.
Readers will also be able to sign up for automatic email notifications, which will provide instant feedback the moment a classified is added that matches the reader’s predefined criteria.
• A new and improved jobs section which will be connected to a nationwide employment network.
• Residents will also have the ability to buy a subscription to the newspapers directly from the website.
